04 GTP From MA. GM Tech.

Hi Im from Ma. I've been a GM tech for 12 years now. I just bought a 2004 GTP with 300K! The car was a company vehicle and all highway miles and is in very nice shape. Original motor and trans, I was surprised the motor still pulls strong but first thing im going to do is dissassemble the motor and transmission and overhaul everything. Im sure the componets are beat inside both. My plans are to modify both engine and trans while im in there and hopefully put up some good numbers. Im sure I can find all the info I need for modifications here and if I can help at all on the GM side just let me know.

Sup ricky.

Honestly, leave the short block alone. Rebuild tend to never last long with all the machine work needed and so on. Just replace some seals and such. But if you really want to tear it down, go ahead.

Id say do the trans tho, its prolly seen its better days.

Yea new oil pump see how the valves and seats are and I was thinking a mild cam maybe to get a little torque on low end. The trans has a harsh 1-2 so I'll go thru that and get all new wear items.

How much power are you looking to put down? people here could give you lots of advice on building a setup and direct you to the right route

A mild cam I'd suggest is the VS cam with L76 springs.

If you do the cam, you IMO will need headers and or some exhaust work (power log/ downpipe, the other option)

Read up on mods and such and I'm sure it'll help you ton with what you might want out of the car.

Im not really sure. My dream would be to pull up to a GXP and smoke him with his girlfriend in his car and make him feel stupid for paying more for the GXP package when he just got beat by a GTP, but I drive the LS4 alot at work and i know what they are capable of and I just dont know if getting over 303hp is possible. Well let me re-phrase, Im sure its possible I dont know if my wallet can afford to get over 303 LOL

Oh yes I am doing headers for sure and exhaust when I have the motor out. The car still has the original cat! I couldent believe it with no codes. It made me feel better about the car being well taken care of but im sure a nice new high flow cat will help it breathe better. Have you done a VS cam in yours?

A note about the transmission, when you're rebuilding (if you don't have the hardware for all the sonnax fixes) I would send the valvebody and channel plate off to tripleedgeperformance and have Dave work his magic on them.
