Hey guys just a real quick question. Are the 04+ GP and impala engines pretty much the same? My gf sis just got like an 06+ impala but it's a 3.6 and not a 3.8. I know 04 impalas are exactly the same but not sure about the 3.6. Is there much of a difference if any?

04 gps have 3.8 series 3 engines and there not the same i think to the new 06 impalas. 2004 impala have series 2 i believe but its still a 3800.

04 impalas have the series 3 3800 not series 2. 06+ impalas have 3.6 but was wondering if there was any huge difference if there was any.

I think 04 impalas have series 2 engines even on the internet it states series 2 n/a and series 2 SC. Series 3 has some differences and improvements like fuel injection pcm etc

Hmm. I thought they were series 3. But back to my original question, are they pretty much the same? As far as part wise or "structural wise"? And im asking about 06+ impalas here.

The 3.6 didn't come along until 2012, my dad recently got a 2012 with one of those. Makes a little over 300 HP, it's an impressive engine. The 3.9 came along in the 2007 models.

The only V6 the 2006 model had was a 3.5L, and it's very different from our 3.8's. Still OHV, but it's got variable cam timing and other goodies. Peak power output is around the same as the 3.8, a tad more HP and a bit less torque, but it carries the power through a wider range of RPMs. Slightly better fuel economy too.
