04+ FWI Questions

So there's not exactly a how-to out for us 04+ guys. I looked through things tonight and it doesn't appear there is a straightforward way to do this. gpgt04 did it how I would have and some of the guys here said it was restricting his airflow with the bend into the fender but there is not alot of room there at all. So if anyone has seen a better job or has any tips or experience throw it in here until we get a How To for the 04+. I took pictures of the are so if you have to sketch it in paint, do whatever, this is where I want to collect all of the ideas.

Im lost Dakota...why all the pics of the cowl?

Just bolt a piece of PVC pipe to the MAF and then a filter to the end of it...or just drop by this weekend and we'll make one.

sorry uploaded wrong pictures then my internet froze. That's actually (idk if you noticed) where they didn't attach the trim right so i have air flowing in my cabin through the bottom of the windshield. I wasn't planning on doing it soon, trying to maximize my warranty so i was planning on waiting till spring. It just seems like quite a few guys aren't sure about this on our models.

:th_scratchhead: ...... Did you even read the write up on a custom FWI..... If you did..then yes it covers us 04+..You make it and put it in just like you would on a 03-. Kinda not that hard to figure it out. The only thing I didn't do was cut on my car!

Reason for thinking the filter goes by the headlight too...it doesn't...there is a big hole in the actual fender behind the stock airbox...thats where the filter runs too...the more bends you have the more restrictive it is...so try and run a filter to the fender...get a piece of PVC pipe and measure it...cut it and keep in mind your going to need to extra clamps since you have an external MAF...

I was under the impression it was different from 97-03.

It also looks to small in that hole for 4" tubing, especially if i have to bend it to get into the fender

Ya my filter is RIGHT behind my fog light. When I run I remove it not my headlight. Im going to have to re-do mine because I want to paint it and I want to use 4in pipe all the store had was 3in. I did notice a difference in the sound and I picked up 1-3mpg. Before I was getting around 19-22 now I can get 23-26 usally stays around 24-25mark!

you remove the filter not your headlight??? wasn't quite understanding. So would the 4" pipe fit? Let me know once you do it. Like i said, I'm just getting mods planned out for the spring so I can get the most out of my warranty

I doubt the 4in fits! I had trouble getting the 3in in there. And I remove my fog light..not filter lol

Legally, mods only void your warranty if they are the cause of the product failure. There are no real "Peal this sticker off and your warranty is void" stickers on a car.

Only thing that can honestly void the warranty is internal work or PCM tuning IIRC...any bolt on stuff isn't affected by the warranty...

Hmm good to hear. Maybe the intake project could happen sooner than I thought. I only have a warranty because it's a certified vehicle. It really looks to me like there's no way a 4 inch would fit, so would the 3 inch still give me good results?
