02 Impala steering issue

Just got a call from a buddy with an 02 Imp. Let me preface this with the fact that it was involved in a hit and run on the pass. side recently, to the point where it sheared 2 wheel studs off the hub.

He said that when he turns (didn't say which direction) that he feels something give, and then the steering turns a bit more. He's bringing it over tomorrow for me to take a look so I figured I'd get some input on what to check out.

My thoughts are:

Bent outer and/or inner tie-rod or a damaged rack.

Your thought's??

Everything on that side is suspect.

CV could be dinged up, strut may be bent, control arm bushings might be gone, subframe bent.. name it.

So basically what you're saying is wait until tonight when I can get it up on a jack and some stands and take a look, lol.. I guess I'll know shortly. Thanks Bill!

Well, for resolution here's what I found and replaced today:

Cracked swaybar on drivers side. New Dorman solid bar in it's place.

Bent pass. side strut. Replaced both sides w/ new quick strut assemblies

Pass. side ball joint was about to come apart. Not sure what was holding it in really. Installed new Dorman arm w/ball joint.

End result- no more popping noise and the steering is nice a smooth again. Probably has less body roll now with the new bar, lol...
