02 gtp vs 02 ford lightning

A buddy of mine with a 02 ford lighting wanted to race. His truck is stock but has different exhaust, my car vs cam 3.4 pulley headers and zzp tune. It was a really good race almost dead even in between each shift is where I would pull or he would. We got to about 80 then let off cause of traffic. He recorded it this is the video only down fall is its upside down he said he forgot to change the settings. Also don't mind the badge on his shirt were corrections officers just having fun. http://youtu.be/q6mhAcvJgWM

Looks to me like it wasn't quite dead even, he took you the whole way. Did you just floor it or did you bring the TC up to stall? Sounds like you just gunned it.

I had it on the stall a little. This is the first time ive ever raced this car. I wanted to run again but we just didn't have time. We are going to try to go to the track soon and see what times it actually does. Also this is the first front wheel drive car ive ever had so its taking some getting used to.

Pretty close race. Throw a smaller pulley and a better tune on there and you got him. Good run though.

Good little run Id like to see a roll race starting at 60 or so that long 2nd gear of ours is nice.

My boss has a Lightning but he is the slow cruise only type, won't run me. I thought it might go something just about like this little "stoplight grand prix" did. Go git um, on the re-match.

Good run with the GP. Lightning isn't bad for a 4600lb truck with 380hp stock. They ran mid to low 13's stock IIRC. I think you can take him with a few more tweaks to your current setup for sure.

Your ZZP tune is probably rich as can be. So there is a bit to be gained there then a pully drop next. I have same mods and just picked up a used 3.2 from Reptile to try out on my setup.

Doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning, lol. (<-----not serious...) I'm not saying it wasn't close, it just looked to me like the lightning had about a half car length on him consistently. I will say it looked like the wheel spin in the beginning is what caused that gap, then it stayed there through the whole race.

Ya im still trying to get used to this fwd thing. Although I do have a set of mustang stock wheels with some mickey Thompson drag radials on them. I just think they would be way to wide for this car, they are 275/40 17r.

Agreed. I think the lightnnig was doggin' it a bit; the GP started to catch up but then the lightning pulled away as the RPM's picked up.
