02 GP GT extended cranking?

Ok this problem is very intermediate.

About 3 months ago, I drove to work. I was there 30 minutes, got in car, turned key, crank, crank, crank, no start. This lasted about 10 seconds and then it fired up. It hasn't done this since earlier today when it reappeared. I was in a store parking lot. I started the car, and was idling while looking at my phone. I decided to make a quick phone call so I shut the car off maybe 1-2 mins. After the call ended, I turned key over to start car to leave, crank, crank, crank, no start. I turned key to off, and then back over to crank and it fired up. The engine cranks fast, but it just doesn't start when it does this. It hasn't done this all evening since then though.

I've also gotten a lumpy idle at startup sometimes but not always, it's very random, but it smooths out after 1-2 seconds. On rare occasion it's lasted maybe 5 seconds. I've also had an issue a few times where the car will crank, start, stumble a split second and die - then when I turned key over it always fired up and ran fine - but it's maybe done this twice since owning it.

It's just very random. The car runs like it's brand new and it doesn't stumble or stall. It's just this startup issue. It hasn't seemed to have gotten worse. I've only owned the car since august.

I did the upper and lower intake manifolds. Replaced upper intake plenum, map sensor in November. I cleaned the IAC about 2 months ago and this still happens. I haven't gotten a chance to change plugs and wires, but it runs really good. Even -5 farenheit it fires right up on cold start. Car always has lots of power and is very smooth running.

Should I try changing the fuel pressure regulator? New IAC? I really dread doing plugs in this cold weather right now. Any other ideas?

Clean the MAF yet?

I had "issues" if you want to call it that maybe every 50 starts where it would do the extended crank. Or it wouldn't fire at the flip of the key like it always did, then it would take 2-3 more try's before it would sputter to life. It's really not a problem because it rarely happened and good luck changing anything about it type of thing.

I cleaned MAF a few months ago with alcohol. It was the first thing I did to see if this would go away. The MAF looks like it's been replaced before.

-This extended no start crank has happened only twice since owning the car.

-The reoccuring-more-often thing is the lumpy idle at startup as soon as it fires/'catches' but then it smooths out after a second or 2. This happens maybe every 8-10 starts. And the start and stall issue has happened maybe twice.

Other than that, every mechanic says it's a great running car. They all say there's nothing wrong with it. Lots of power, no stumbling, transmission shifts fast and smooth, etc. Has 198k, but runs like new. Body has 0 rust for being in Michigan. I never did a tune up because it never ran rough. Put new battery in a few months ago. Cleaned IAC which had lots of carbon. Gets great gas mileage. I can't think of anything that would make the car do this, or any other symptoms. It's all random.

I paid only $1200 for it too, but I maybe put $300 into it me doing all the repairs myself.

I'm tempted to order a FPR online and throw it in to see if that makes a difference.

Did you fix your issue?

pull the vac line off the fpr, see if it smells of gas or if gas leaks out. you can also run the car vac line off, see if the fpr starts leaking gas out its nipple.

any of that, the fpr is bad.

I never fixed it because it's really a non issue, there is no way to say exactly why the car did it. It happend once every never really, so it's not something I could ever trouble shoot or determine what part is causing it.

I pulled fpr vac line off at work and smelled raw gas, but no visual of anything wet. I drove home 15 minutes and pulled vac line off while running and no gas was shooting out. The smell of raw gas is definitely there but I don't see any. I ordered a new fpr this morning anyways.

I hear the pump run when I pay attention to it. But most of the time I just start it up and go not paying attention.

How good are those cheap eBay parts? I bought a map sensor for like 10 bucks on there and my map code went away.

It's a maybe, fuel always runs through the FPR so a smell can be there.

If the diapham failed then it would be leaking fuel out but that's not your case.

if you smell gas in the vac line the fpr is bad and is leaking at times.

the n/a engines seem to have the fpr's fail more often, they take longer to fire up when cold most of the time, then fire up like normal when warmed up.
