01 gtp pulley question

I bought a 01 gtp about a year ago and the owner had said it had a smaller pulley on the supercharger. I asked what size and he wasn't sure so I didn't think much of it at the time. Fast forward to now I checked the pulley and it looks like it's stamped with a gm part number, the number is 86016. I searched the web and didn't come up with much. Is this the factory 3.8" pulley? It has a 180 t Stat but as far as mods go that's it.

I took a tape measure to it but with the bolt sticking out of the center of the pulley it's tough to get and accurate read on it

you got a harbor freight near by? they got one for 5 bucks. works fine. i used it to measure the hub on my winter wheels so i could get spacer rings for em.

I'll have to check harbor freight out. I'm about 45 minutes from the closest one. And yeah there is an R stamped on it too.

And put the stock 195* stat back in. If the car isn't tuned for the lower temp thermostat it's not doing you any good since the fans are still set to come on around 212*. You may actually be loosing fuel mileage since the car isn't getting up to temp. These motors were designed to run hot.

I was actually just thinking about that. In the year I've owned it the fans have only kicked on twice. He also said he was running colder plugs in it. If that's the case should I throw some 605 coppers in it? Or just use what is called for stock?

Not really.

But okay.

Heat is what breaks everything down in these cars, and the rated temp that the t-stat is at is a solid 10-20* less than what the actual temp is...example: my 160* constantly ran north of 175*.

The tune will help but tossing the 180* in there now isn't going to harm anything. And if you think you're really losing that much fuel mileage, then I don't know what to tell you. I didn't even notice a difference with my 160*, except for letting it run for a minute or two longer on cold mornings.

I drive mostly highway which keeps it pretty cool but this past winter my car never warmed up above 170ish

Good to know. Never tried it but since everyone here suggested to leave it alone if not tuned for it that's what I always went with.

Everyone should own a digital caliper..worth every penny there's somethings where a measuring tape won't cut it.
