01 GP GT Taking off limiter?

Hey all I just got bought my moms 2001 GP GT. My lease is up on my 08 Impala SS and with my fiance and I trying to buy a house we figured it would be nice to not have a $380 car payment a month. Anyway Its a 2001 GP GT. It has 203k ALL highway miles and honestly looks as good now as the day she bought it 10 years ago. Last year she had the trans completely rebuilt and the car runs great!. I know it will never get up and go like my SS but is there any company out there that makes a chip or can flash the computer to take the top speed limiter off? If memory serves me correctly I believe it is limited to 108MPH? Do these cars last for a while? With 203k miles on it thats my only concern. It does help though knowing that that car has been taken care of its entire life. I figure for $500 i cant go wrong. Anyway just had the couple questions for you all thanks!

You can.

But these cars aren't the safest.

Your tires are probably only rated for 112 MPH (or less knowing how some owners can be with tires....)

These motors don't like highway pulls aka trying to reach top speed.

You're more likely to damage the motor in that situation.

Your tranny wont have hardened forth gear splines thus you should never go full throttle in forth gear.

The main issue is rust and suspension wear.

You're entire suspension is probably shot unless it was replaced in the last 50K miles.

Even then, its starting to operate at a lower level of efficiency.

Something else I forgot to mention 30k ago she had new shocks struts and springs put on. When she bought the car she had it undercoated 2 weeks later so there isnt much rust if any on the car. What company could I buy form?

I want to take the speed limiter off. What company sells a chip or programmer that takes the limiter off. The tires that are on the car are Goodyear 225/60R16 98H.

Hello johnnyb. Since you live in Michigan, and want to save money, call for an appointment and drive over to ZZPerformance in Wyoming (Mi.) to have them flash your PCM to a PCM1.0 as well as pick-up some performance parts to save on time and shipping costs. Unless you plan on driving 130mph on the highway all the time, your tires should be fine with your current (stock) power output of 165whp at the tires. With a top-swap or turbo, your 2001 GT will be far, far, faster than an Impala SS V8. With keeping those two options in mind, you could purchase ZZP "ER" rockers and S.S PLOG to start unlocking power (20HP CRANK) and these MODS could be kept for a future top-swap or turbo upgrade while saving money. If you are going to stay N/A for a few years, try adding a stage1 TB & HV3. The stage1 TB is over-bored from 65mm to 68mm and hand ported at the exit, while the HV3 replaces your stock intake runners and really lets the engine breath above 4,000rpm. These two mods dramatically increases throttle response, especially with a turbo. However if you are doing a top-swap (blower), then skip the stage1 TB and HV3.

FWIW, I'd never run anything but headers on a high compression boosted car...a PLOG/DP wouldn't suffice for flow. ER Rockers ARE for N/A cars...not for boosted ones. Check yoslef there. HV3 I agree, but ZZP's tune...along with their Stage 1 Ported TB suck...proven to have idle issues time and time again. Like I've said before if your going the N/A route...do something not many people do...likeeeeeeeee

L26 UIM
Ported L67 TB
L67 Injectors
GT2 Cam
Custom Length Pushrods
Milled Heads/Block for higher compression
P&P'd heads with 105 Springs/L32 Valves
Headers of whatever brand
Built transmission with a stall and 3.69's
Custom Tuned PCM
HV3...and 1.6 or 1.7 YT Roller Rockers
Deleted Balance Shaft along with a balanced rotating assembly...

Hello easy 13's.

Or, why not toss on a 100 shot too...12 second N/A WBody with some slicks? I win.

I have no vested interest in your car. If you want to keep the motor happy, don't push the top end of the speed. It takes so long for the car to get up to speed, that you are revving the hell out of the motor and then ..... your creampuff becomes a lemon at your hands. Or should I say foot?

I set the current N\A stock cam record on a ZZP tune & stage1 TB. Sure the TB comes with used (and questionable) IAC valve, however you should just switch over your old IAC or buy a new one. OH...I just bought the last set of ZZP aluminum heads...ha..Ha..HA!

four bolt + high comp + AL heads = potential warpage issues.

Just saying...

The Al heads didn't change the intake angles either which kinda sucks considering thats were we could have used some improvement.

All that money...and its still N/A.

Woooow...I set that record on cast-iron heads that I ported myself, I spent under $1200 to do it. The aluminum heads are for next year and I might drill the extra holes in a new block. My goal is simply 202whp and then I'll cam it (or try) for 300 at the wheels. I haven't seen ANY dyno numbers with a 220\228 cam yet - or anywhere near. And yes, it is disappointing that ZZP did not raise the intake runners a few tenths or change valve angles. But I'll make due.
