'00 GTP Died, Won't Start.

Driving last night, my 2000 Grand Prix GTP started clicking as I drove on the expressway. I initially dismissed the noise, thinking that it was road noise. Getting off the expressway, my Oil light flickered and my engine started sputtering and clicking loudly as I stopped at the toll booth.

At this point, my plan was to get to the nearest gas station, ASAP. After about a block of driving, the noise became louder and dramatically more frequent. My oil light flickered again, and my engine cut out.

After this, my car would not start. The fuel pump is running, but the starter doesn't try to turn over. It simply makes a loud clicking noise, like my battery is dead.

Checking my dipstick, the oil seemed clean, and the level seemed good. I have had a slow coolant leak that I can not track down. My dad and I cleaned/replaced the Upper Intake Manifold Gaskets previously.

Any ideas what could be the issue?

Help us out when you say clicking?

I can't put a finger on the noise you are speaking of from the description. Usually I'm pretty good at guessing, so help me out here. Fast/slow.. with rpm, loud, more of a bang than a click, a knock vs click?

There's not a ton of stuff that'll keep these puppies from turning over. Therefore it's likely bad.

SOunds like the engine, for whatever reason lost oil pressure, and locked up. The clicking you heard could have been the lifters due to low or no oil pressure.

The ticking seemed to follow RPMs. At idle the clicking was the worst, and the engine acted like it wanted to stall out.

Just dealt with this myself. Picked up a used engine for $100 and now I'm throwing performance parts at it while it's still on the stand.
