'00 GT Downpipe question

I am interested in getting a downpipe as the next step for my 2000 GT but after finding ZZP I am a bit confused as to which downpipe would be best suited for my car. It is completely stock as for the engine, only thing I have done was adding a K&N CAI. I do not have the tools to install the downpipe myself and price is not too much of a issue it is a graduation present. I just want to pick the correct downpipe so installation goes smoothly since I will have my local mechanic install it for me. Below is the website I am looking to order from, after browsing around the forums it seems members have said ZZP have good downpipes. Any other information or knowledge inputted would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you are a GT/GTP guy and want a cheap weld-in Downpipe...then go for the Shorty DP. GT guys tend to go for the 2.5” as being Naturally Aspirated you want a bit more back pressure.
bluegtp91 in his safely modding your 3800 powered car says 2.5", is there any benefits getting a 3" or would it not help me too much since my car does not have a SC?

That was also my main concern was the cat so I would want one w/ a cat or can it weld onto the all ready existing cat in my car? Or does the entire downpipe replace the part of the exhaust that the cat is in? I am a novice when it comes to modding my car and have been trying to learn as I progress, just don't want to spent more for the cat attached if it is not required. Also should I lean more towards the 304SS instead of the aluminized or does it not matter too much?

I like the fact that you read, not many people do.

The whole back pressure thing is pretty much a myth, most cars make less than 1 psi of back pressure, so that does not matter.

The stock DP is roughly 2.25in, so going to 2.5in is hardly anything, but it does get rid of the ubend which does help.

But you want the 3in, because it will flow more and its worth it.

Because say someday you may want to add a plog and maybe an HV3 for that little extra power, then your already a step ahead ya know.

If you really wanted to, I guess you could buy the catless downpipe and cut off your cat and have it welded into the new downpipe. It might be cheaper that way.

Otherwise the Catted DP replaces that whole section, its just bolt in and done.

I try to learn and not be a burden I too know how it feels with people asking the same questions over and over on things I am knowledgeable on. You normally don't want to annoy the ones that are helping, they are after all steering you in the right path and have more knowledge. I understand what you mean it would be beneficial in the long run if I look to add to my car so I don't waste more money.

Ok ill just add them in 15 isn't too much and I couldn't see saving more than 5 bucks maybe going through the mechanic if he has them as well. I am assuming the mechanic would know where to install the gaskets so ill get them so everything runs smooth. I appreciate your help, one step closer to this addition to my car. I was reading more on the safely modification thread and I read that downpipes and PLOGS normally work well together or are mods done around the same time, what would a PLOG do for my car? Is it worth the extra 120$. I tried to find information on it but I couldn't really find anything.

Basically you have 2 options for exhaust.

Plog/DP and or Headers.

Headers do everything the plog/dp for the most part, at around the same cost, but are alot better for the supercharged cars because of the horsepower number they will want to make.

The plog will replace the restrictive front manifold and would free up some HP and the car will be alot happier that it can breath better.

Its alot faster install than headers, but since your NA a plog/dp setup is just fine.

Final question lol, I was looking on the site for info on the PLOG and I couldn't find anything stating if it is legal as far as if it will pass emissions. That's the reason why I am doing the downpipe instead of getting headers, since headers will not pass emissions.

headers can pass emissions, you just have to buy an aftermarket cat for them.

The plog only replaces the front manifold and has nothing to do with emissions.

Oh, I guess the set of headers I was looking at did not come with a cat so that's why it was listed stating that it would not pass emissions, I might just go for headers than its close to the same price as the plog+downpipe route. Which would be more beneficial? The headers more than likely right?
