'00 Grand Prix GT intake/cleaning ?'s

hey not triena jack your thread I've been looking into this I plan to do mine in the next couple weeks, I'm just trying to get a shopping list going. Building up them autozone rewards points haha. I know for sure I need the lim and uim gaskets. I want to do any and all little things like elbows and such. So what else should I get?

thermostat...water pump...spark plugs and wires...oil...coolant...RTV...valve cover gaskets...valve cover bolt gourmets...elbow grease(hopefully u have that):)...LIM and UIM...shop towels...floor dry(just in case)...all the elbows and such...new pcv...parts cleaner/engine degreaser...fuel injector o-rings...might have forgot something

i wasnt sure if they did or not...i know the auto parts stores still sell both tho...just making sure he doesnt get the old ones then have to do it again later on :)

Might as well clean the MAF and clean all the battery cables and posts. Little dielectric grease on the batt. will keep corrosion to a minimum.

Oh yea, and beer. Gotta have beer lol...

i was thinking maybe doing the oil pan gasket at the same time?...are other GP has a very bad oil pan gasket but when i get this car done were just giving it to her step-dad,and he works at a shop(he can do it,hes getting it for free)...maybe it would help clean stuff out from the pan and save me a hassle later on?...im doing tranny fluid and filter at the same time...what about lowering the thermostat down to 180??

In order to do the oil pan gasket you have to raise the entire motor/trans off the subframe otherwise the pan won't clear everything and you have to remove the entire engine mount bracket. PITA. If your step dad has access to a shop then I'd let him tackle it. Much easier w/ the right tools. I'm not a fan of distrubing stuff in the pan itself, so if its stuck already I usually leave it. Don't want it coming loose and clogging up the pickup screen. No oil= boom!

im not going to do the oil pan gasket...too much work too little time...ive been working 5 am to 5 pm everyday and most saturdays and i havent really worked on the car except buy parts(im done with that thank god!)...im going out tonight(right now) so wish me luck!

im getting the brakes finally done now since im motivated after work this week lol...heres a quick sample of what i have done

well guys the car is now running!...it runs great but im doing a coolant flush on it now...im having a few issues with the brakes right not (just the rear left one) i took it for a 5 min spin to get gas and when i got back the rotor was VERY VERY hot.I bleed the brakes and the pedal got tight but when i start the car i lose all the pressure and when i shut the car off and push the pedal 2-3 times the pressure comes back.I barely was able to stop when i went to get gas(bleed the brakes right before i left)...so do you guys have any ideas?...its just the rear left one and thats the one i replaced the hub on and took the ebrake off

Did you bleed the brakes starting at the right rear, then left rear, right front then left front? Other than that with the loss of pressure and then it coming back after a few pumps it sounds like the master cylinder may be toast.

i started right rear then left rear then right front and then left front...idk how it would be bad,it stopped perfect and no issues with the car(except intake gaskets)before i tore it apart...the left rear ebrake was catching BAD so maybe it didnt get all the air out...ill try it again tomorrow night...i took the ebrake pad off cuz it was pretty wore out and catching plus the ebrake barely worked before i tore it apart and who needs the ebrake on a automatic car anyways?? ;)

mine was at 173k and her mom maybe changed the coolant once with all those miles...and prolly went alittle over 3k each oil change with ****ty oil lol...shes all good now that shes under my wing!...and btw this was the first time this motor was apart with 173k...the light in the pictures prolly didnt help either...it was in my garage with a few lights burnt out:th_laugh-lol3:
