traction control on will pull a few degrees of timing from the engine when activated = less hp, rolling into the throttle with t/c off=better.
 
brake torque and load the converter then slowly let off the brake and roll into the launch and eventually you'll learn to let off perfectly and get a chirp and a kick in the pants instead of smoke...
