Turbo'ed Monte Carlo up in flames **(Pics)**

Was on my way with my buddy who owns(or should i say owned) a fully built Turbo'ed Monte Carlo to town from where we live. He got on the throttle a little to pass a guy that was goin very slow. All of sudden a loud pop sound came from under the hood. Then the smoke starts rollin in the cabin and i look over at my buddy and say is this normal. It got so filled with smoke i said dude stop the car. So i jumped out really quick and looked under the car and it was glowing orange. I said man ur car is ****in on fire. So he quickly pops the hood and the whole engine bay was engulfed in flames. After getting off the phone with 911, we could see that the whole upper intake manifold (L36) was gone. Prior to this happening, we had just got back from ZZP. We had a fully built trans, L67 bottom end, dyno, ST2 cam, heads and a bunch of other goodies put on after he got back from deployment. Z7 turbo kit, A2A IC, t62-1 turbo was all done before his deployment.

Re: Turbo'ed Monte Carlo up in flames

yes there was a ZZP PCM in there but that wouldnt cause the UIM to explode. But i could be wrong

Re: Turbo'ed Monte Carlo up in flames

were you guys running an l36 (plastic) upper on a turbo car? you blew it to pieces and the gas ignited and kept igniting since thats where the injectors are. i would never even think of using that when the l26 upper is available for just as cheap.

sorry to hear about the loss. i would have hated to lose a car with that much money into it.

Re: Turbo'ed Monte Carlo up in flames

Yes bio it was an L36 UIM. Thats exactly what i said was the problem to guy that owns the car right when we were watchin it go ablaze and that we should have went with L26 Upper.

Re: Turbo'ed Monte Carlo up in flames

yes the whole front clip and interior is completely gone. the turbo is fine, tranny and engine we dont know yet. if the tranny and engine are alright hes just gonna let me have them for cheap. and they are built.

yeah...about that...looks like that turbo MIGHT not be in the best of shape even with that heat shield over it

that thing took out a pair of verde 5ives with it!! NOOOOO!!

the car including the motor and trans are gone. that thing got HOT.

yup some 20 inch Verde 5ives. The turbo can be salvaged. The thing about it was the fire on the passengermore than anything. Intercooler was even touch. All the boost tubing and even all the bottom couplers are fine. The trans idk and motor maybe. It will all pan out after we drop the cradle.

This is the before. Was also car of the month on the monte carlo PFYC.
