Now that I went though I just wanna do better lol. New upper polys for sure
Decided to take a look at what this rattling sound was ive been hearing for a while. It seems to be coming from the the very end of the snout/pulley. It's not just at idle, it's at all ranges. Was thinking coupler but that's been replaced, or rotor pack. But when I used the stethoscope, the further down the snout towards the blower I got, the less the the noises dimished. Then increasingly obvious as I went back towards the pulley...
They go bad after replacing, and can be hear at idle, and while driving?
Brand unsure, it was swapped out by my gf's dad when I first got it. I knew even less about cars when I got it. But the green one from ZZP I heard is good. Swapped prolly over 35 k miles ago. I was sure it wasn't the coupler tho....thought the coupler is more towards the end of the snout towards the blower and not the end of the snout where pulley is.
You sure it's the coupler? Cause it doesn't seem to rattle AS much when driving. But it's there, and with all the play in the pulley and the sound going from that end. Just want to make sure
you wont hear it when you give it gas, it tightens up. only rattles at idle. pulley has back and fourth play with a click sound. all coupler failure signs.
sound travels down the shaft.
when you pull the snout, after you suck it out, lay some rags down under it cause more will spill out when the snout comes off. you dont want that stink dripping all over. wash what ever does get on the engine down with brake cleaner.
True. Unless I'm hearing my CAI making that sucking noise when I'm driving, I only can really hear it when it's at a stop or parked with the hood up. Even pulling the throttle cable it makes some noise. But thank you for the help, I'll have to do this next week. ZZP sells the green coupler that I'll get. So I need two orders of that GM SC oil they sell?
yup, 2 bottles. you'll feel it have a touch more power when you first give it gas after the swap.
mine was clicking just like yours. loud too. so loud the mechanic who knew nothing about superchargers said it needs a new sc. that was another chip at the price when i bought my car.
I will say that when I got it tuned with josh and Brandon that it wasn't making any noise and felt boat loads fSt and lately it's been feeling like a hog. Could just be placebo but either way, the noise has got to go lol. Thanks a lot for te help.
There is no thing as an easy job. As if getting the belt off wasn't hard enough cause its wrapped so freaking tight, the allen plug for the sc oil is stripped. So changing the coupler out today is a no go.
take a flat head screw driver that just almost fits, (little bigger) and hammer it in the plug. then if need be put a wrench on the screw driver to turn it.
how i get mine off and on now, till i get a new plug. not a huge deal to me tho.
would hate to butcher the thing. Cause what if it's seized? I was yanking on it to break it loose but ended up stripping it. I'm sure it was the 100% correct size.
screw driver trick works. once its striped you still need to get it out, so go for it.
you just hammer it in till its in the hole, dont smash it through. you want it to come out as one whole part.
