Throttle got stuck wide open

SilvaMan61

GPFs Sexy Ginger.
Prius style.

I got on the highway tonight after work. It was empty so I floored it, WOT. I backed off after a couple seconds but the throttle stuck wide open. It stayed down for maybe four seconds, hard to tell I was busy ****ting my pants. Anyways I kicked at the pedal and it popped back up.

Ive never heard of this before on w bodies so I'm fairly sure it was user error. I'm thinking it was the floor mat. It was bunched up under the pedal area. I'm going to replace, or at least clean the TB for a bit of extra insurance. Is there anything else I should do? As you can imagine I don't want this to happen again.

Im honestly just glad that I was driving, I know my GF wouldn't have reacted the same way.

Remove floor mat, push pedal to the floor harshly like you did. Try a few time to get it to stick. If it does..check the cable routing for anything binding it. Then remove the TB and clean it like you never want it to do that again.

GF probably drives more responsibly, doesn't feel the need to floor it? :)

touche, it's been too long since I've driven like a dumb ass. I can treat myself.

Spray some grease or something on the throttle blade spring thing on the outside and make sure your floor mat isnt the problem.

Will do

craziness. happened to me in a 94 Caprice. my friend let me drive it to feel the power vs my then Saturn. he told me to floor it and ya, it got stuck. he said put it in neutral and kill it. it bounced on the rev limiter once and then i stabbed the brakes, and killed the ignition, you gotta maintain the pressure on the brakes, if you let up a little, it wont work cuz the engine is off after you initially applied max press. he explaind all this to me as he was apparently familiar with the problem. 'twas an L88 Caprice with exhaust and under-drives.

The brakes still work, they simply aren't power assisted after the vacuum from the engine is used up.

Grow a leg muscle and you'll stop any car that you want to. Have enough adrenaline in an about to crash situation and you'll have some power in that leg.

same happened to me except mine didn't shut down. My first reaction was brakes and neutral. No avail. Just bounced of the RL a couple times. I tossed it back into drive, probably not the best choice, then managed to break the pedal free.

Thats might be why my SC belt is bouncing around like a stripper on cocaine.

i got my pedal stuck on ny 92 honda 1.5L lol i was worried a bit but not by much as when the pedal was stuck and i was flooring it, an old man passed me in his electric scooter.. but i slaped it in nutral shutr car off, fixed mat and started back up. i went home and cut a big corner out of my mat so i wont have that problem again.

Did the mat trick with a 92 Prelude. It's funny, the brakes outperformed the throttle. I slowed the car, bringing the rpm down automatically, then unstuck the mat. Was about to kill engine.

Had that happen with a car at work, was in traffic and went to get around a slow car and put the hammer down. I didn't realize the salesman had flipped the floor mat over and it slide up and caught the pedal, at the point I realized what happened, I noticed the truck in front was stopping. Total pants ****ting moment.

Time slowed, my heart stopped, I bumped the shifter to N, hit the brakes, and kill the ignition. Now stopped about 1 ft away from the bumper, I moved the mat further back, turned the car back on, put back to D and proceeded on. Car was redlined a couple times, bounced off the rev limiter like I was a ricer in a F&F movie, but that's why a limiter is put in place lol.... right?

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that has had this happen. I removed the mat and greased the spring. All was well today. Floored it a few times on my way into work. In and out like butter.
