Gas Prices!!!

I wonder what mine is at, haven't had to get gas since Saturday and I didn't even pay attention to the price cuz I was too busy looking at my damage....

i saw 2.89 reg. unlead at citgo. going to get some gas for the crapvalier. i think $10 should get me close to 3/4 a tank. btw 3.09 is very good than a month ago. back then i was paying 4.51 for 93 octane.

From GasBuddy.com at 11:15 PM EDT 10/29 -

Illinois as low as $2.15
Delaware as low as $2.23
Arizona as low as $2.51
Alaska as low as $3.22

So, what state is higher? Oops.

you have to be way way of chicago to get the 2.15 gas. i just pay 2.99 at citgo for my beater. paid 10.02 for half a tank, that's not bad at all. i think i will fill up both cars on the weekend in case gas price went back up.

If I knew the gas would stay usable for any length of time, Id go buy a few more 6 gallon containers and fill them suckers up at these prices. Id be a demand spike all on my own. Ive seen it under $2/gal around here.

Nope, not really. Theres been a huge demand roll off and then couple that with the economic downturn and its just going to fall. I believe I saw December Oil futures in the $50 range, if that holds, then we might see prices hit pre-Katrina levels if not a tick or two lower. But what I think will happen is that you will get bulk buyers like airlines and such in the game buying huge amounts which may cause some spikes here and there.

Thats why Southwest is able to fly so cheap. Before prices started going up, they apparently had someone that could see the writing on the wall and bought mega amounts locked in at the lower prices. The other airlines were caught with their pants down so to speak.

I personally think we will see it down to the $1.50 range in many areas. How long it stays there remains to be seen. But I think a lot of people have had their mindsets changed about fuel economy and fuel usage and perhaps have developed a little better respect for fuel efficient vehicles and maybe seeing that they dont need that 7000lb SUV to drive just themselves around in.

Anyone think this has something to do with the election?

People are losing houses and have to cut expenses. No more late night burger runs or trips just to take trips. Even with a nearly $2 price drop for me, I'm in no hurry to increase my driving. I'm still keeping it low.

Folks would hate this, but NOW is the time, with gas prices in a free fall, to create a "gas savings" account. Artificially keep the gas prices at $3, and put the extra money in savings. So when it goes up, and it will, the jolt won't hurt as much since we'll be able to feel it slowly.

But this makes sense, and runs counter the the consumer's spend spend SPEND attitude.

Its too bad that everyday consumers cannot buy gas in bulk or something like that like bigger companies do, just on a smaller scale. Say, go in and have this rechargeable card or something like that, and tell them you want to buy 20 gallons now and will pump it later and keep doing that while prices are low. That way if it goes back up to $3, $4/gal you just pull up, swipe your card and pump some of that gas you bought back when it was $2/gallon.

Oil companies change their for the winter and for the summer, as odd as that sounds. They change it for a more constant viscosity.

As for how long it takes for gas to become unusable, it depends on some things. Condensation is one. The other is evaporation of some chemicals mixed with it. If you let gas sit and evaporate it gets real sticky, almost melted gummy bear or worm like.

The length of time it takes to denature can take anywhere from as little as one month to potentially lasting about half a year. I'm sure in some cases it has lasted longer like in storage, but in our cars generally not very long at all.
