Well ll be pulling my L67 on my gre gtp to put into my Na 40th sometime this year depending when i finish it all. I will be putting a L67 i picked up at the junk back into my gtp and selling itchanged all gaskets but won know if itturns over fine or has any issues till i crank it over. I have some questis when you have a spun bearing or a rod knock do you end up with some metal shavings on the oil pan or no?

Also for anyone that lives in strict emision places like me in cali. What cam would you run that can pass smog without issue i am undecided between VS or XP?
I use the car as a DD and street use and some track use but more of a street car. 91oct

some pics of the engine i will be pulllig out of my gtp and the one going in it.

Spun bearings will send metal throughout the motor.

Any cam can pass emissions. Its your choice of cat converter that will or won't let you pass.

100% on this I have my xpz IS4 heads and supporting mods besides tranny and before I pull the trigger I want too n need to know if i can 100% pass with it before I drop the cash and a good Trans and small things needed as well as a tune.

soooo i like what whats in the background i like your collection. black gtx hood for sale lol just kiddin, but seriously
Haha thanks it's a habit. 4 gps and gonna be selling the grey one and a 40th soon.
Also have a a couple of classics in the back shed there in the picture.
67 mustang
67 firebird 69 firebird
Two 73 formula 400
78 and 79 Trans am 403 block
76 stingray
and 67 camaro ss

So there's a couple of cars lol

If you're gonna DD the car, go with the VS cam. All the power you need is below 6000 rpm. KR is nothing compared to high rpm's on a 3800. If you don't rev your XP to 6300 rpm or better, it probably won't make more power than the VS anyway. The key to a 200-300K mile 3800 is easy. Rev low, and eliminate KR. I'd rather have 6* of kr for 10 minutes than take a junkyard L67 to 6500 rpm for 10 seconds.

Well i have read good and bad between the both and many people comparing and picking them apart. I currently have a xpz cam IS4 heads and all supporting mods for that build till the new smog law started this year that change my mind if I can't pass with xpz which is what I am trying to find out.
Also completely agree with you on the RPM and KR. I just want a fast dd enough to smoke srt8 without much issue at all.
What about th S1x cam? I've heard that is in between the vs and xp cam.

The s1x is inbetween the VS and XP in size, but the powerband is broader meaning you'll have to rev that cam more than the other two to get everything out of it. A stout VS setup would have no problems with an srt 8. Hell my setup ran a 13 flat with all sorts of kr due to a bad intercooler pump. I'm sure it would have performaed just as well as my xp set ups, only it didn't need to rev high to do it. I'm willing to bet there's a 100,000 mile life expectancy difference between a vs cam car and an xp/s1x car if both are tuned to take advantage of the powerband of the cam. For anyone who dd's thier car, I'd always recommend a vs. It's the best 3800 cam and it makes a ton of power everywhere in street revs. The trade-off in durability vs power on a scale of 1-10 is a 10 to 1.

I was planning on using my xpz on my DD so as you can see I want the power lol just going from a XPZ build I had planned to a vs seems like such a huge gap. I mean would putting my IS4 heads on the VS be too much and gen v 3.0 pulley and N*, sfi balancer and so on I have pretty much all parts for my XPZ I just want to be able to have a reliable car of course and be crushin all the mustangs and srt8 out there with a good amount. And of course at the end be happy with it all.

They have the sniffer test out in CA, right? If so, I would really reconsider doing any sort of a cam.
Yup cali is one of the most strictest places for emissions.
People have passed with cams on other cars like mustangs and camaros legally.

how many GP's you have?
Two 40th sedan NA soon to be cammed and sc if all goes well.
The grey GTP which I will be selling soon.
And a GTX previous owner claims it is strokes so I will be tearing it apart to verify it is.
So a total of 4 gps.

You might want to send PRJ an email, since he has tuned Jonbob's car, who lives in CA. He would probably have some pretty valuable input.
