2001 Grand Prix GT in Kennesaw, GA

GT in Kennesaw

New member
This is my 2001 Grand Prix GT. I bought this car new in August of 2001. It is my third Grand Prix. Before, I owned a silver 1999 GT-2 door and a green 1996 SE 2-door. I also bought 2 Solstice roadsters. If they had kept making the 2-door Grand Prix, I would have kept buying them. Hell, they don't even make Pontiac anymore. I also own a 2005 Hummer H2 and a 2006 Hummer H3. Seems like I have a talent for shutting down car brands. I'm thinking I'll start buying Fords and see if that still works.

As you can see, I am a big believer in stopping. Brakes first, everything else comes in second.

Car looks real nice how many miles are on it and what are your future plans? Love the look of those rotors

Thanks. I have 177,000+ miles on it now. I just finished replacing the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, so I'm not making any plans for now. The shocks are showing their age, so probably shocks and springs are next, but not just yet.

The rotors are Baer DecelaRotors. They're not cheap, but they last. The fronts require that you replace the caliper brackets. The part numbers are listed below. This was an easy upgrade and should have been standard on the car. Anyone who's ever replaced their brake pads can do this.

Baer part #55034-020 front rotors
Baer part #55039-020 in the rear rotors

Upgrading to 12" rotors required parts.
GM PART # 18029829 - 2 - Bracket, front brake caliper
GM PART # 18046666 - 2 - Pin kit, front brake caliper guide
GM PART # 18024959 - 2 - Bushing kit, front brake caliper
GM PART # 18029828 - 1 - Pad kit, front disc brake.

The GMPP pads are hands down the best pads I've ever put on my Grand Prix. I've tried the Hawk HPS pads and was very disappointed. The Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads are the next best, just harder to find and harder on the rotors. Do this upgrade and you'll be amazed at how quickly you can scrub off speed.

Add these parts and your car will corner much flatter.
Handling Upgrade Kit
GM PART # pk12456148.

Thanks for all the brake info might look into that in the near future if your going to replace your struts with stock struts purchase them online replaced all four my struts with the completely assemblies brand new shipped to my door for $280 and they were Monroe's check eBay and amazon

Wow that's awesome!! cars can look clean with 177k on them as long as they are taken care of since day one

Very nice car my friend, a co worker of mine has a 97 GTP he has owned since new. looks identical to your car but had 17" Konig's SP? and yellow painted calipers. He also has a 99 chevy 1500 owned since new, both with over 200k miles and look like new. He has a thing about keeping them clean etc... Also, you should check out my build thread on here, I live in the Marietta area right near Barrett Prkway and Dallas hwy. So right in your neighborhood!

EDIT: You should also mark your calender for this!
Finally settled on a location.

The car show is going to be on March 30th right here: 1032 marietta parkway - Google Maps from 10am to 4pm.

Admission cost will probably be $5 and registration will be around $10.

Thanks for the comment.
I looked at your build thread and WOW. It looks like you'll have it on the street before too long. I will try to be there on March 30 to see it in person.
You didn't mention any interior plans, but you should check out this link Mr. Mikes Leather Upholstery for PT Cruiser, Fiero, Kit-Car, Camaro and Firebird. It is to Mr Mike, who makes custom interiors seat covers and door panels for only a few cars; the Fiero is one of them. Back in Nov/Dec of 2004 I built a 91 Z28 conv (3rd Gen) for my oldest son for his graduation present (GA Tech). Mr. Mike made some custom pieces for that car. His work and the materials used are second to none, extremely fast turn-around and at a reasonable cost. You should check him out.
Here's a couple of pics of the Camaro interior (Sorry, I can only find the low-res).

Proof that cows should not hitch hike on highways at night. My youngest son and 2 of his friends were returning from Alabama late one night. No one was hurt. Except the cow. It was killed along with the car. It was a really nice car.

WOW! I was going to guess moose or elk until I read cow... lol! I will have to look into the interior, I have no posted pictures of it yet, but honestly the car coming from a one family owner situation is still basically complete and with a good cleaning would look good. Only issue is the drivers seat is torn... The interior, and Exterior appearance of the car will be on the check list as soon as I have all the mechanical aspects worked out to 100%. Sadly this will probably not be before the car show :(
