Cold air intake Vs. stock intake (which is better?)

Ya the sound of the blower will be perfect reason to install one, But dont the Supercharged GP make a little more noticeable power?

i have one on mine dont notice difference right away but have noticed slight better mpg also i get lots of sticks leaves and other crap under my filter on the pcm and little crap on the filter so yea theres plenty of air getting to it if that crap can get to it lol also ive ran my car at 109mph for 18 miles so like 20 min straight and when i got home my exhast was cherry red but my intake tube and the metal on the filter were ice cold.

Uhhh why?



An intake is not gonna give you more power. Throttle response will be more snappy but that is what your mind equates into more power.

The reason for an intake is to allow for a larger volume of air.

What people don't realize is, that when the engineers designed everything, they made parts that were going to give that engine the best performance it can..

For example, my wrx, the factory intake on it is good up to around 400 hp.. That's a lot. And with a good filter on a 3800, just like our catback being good for around 300-350 wheel (400chp)...These intakes can be very useful till around that power level before becoming a restriction.
 
The factory intakes are generally the best designed. A gutted stock air box is better than probably any other intake available. My Cadi. Adding a CAI actually decreases power the stock one is designed so well.

It's purely choice. If you want to hear the intake more and like the throttle response, then leave your hai/cai/sri on. It isn't hurting anything, but you are adding a mod that is not needed at your power level... And mostly all cars out there.

Barely anyone gets to that power level where a new intake is needed. But hey, it's a fun, cheap mod to do (depending if you buy or build one) and it sounds cool.

I made one, I thought it was sweet and it is. Who wouldn't want that throaty sound?

Edit. Every vehicle I've driven in 11 years has had cai/hai so not gunna convince this guy that stock air ox is better on anything.

False. You do not. If you do a big hp build... Then yes, do an intake for sure because you need it and not because you want it.


If you are just putting a 3.4/3.5 pulley and headers on your car.. Then no, you do not need an intake.

wanted to get home asap and when i did i thought man i wonder how hot this thing got and wanted to see so no real reason i know are cars arnt really ment to do those kinds of things but hey i beat and beat and see what it takes lol it went from a normal 20 min or so drive to a 9 min drive was fun.( no no one else was on the road i only take my only life into my hands when do such things i dont ever want to take a chanc of kiling some one so if i even see one vehicle i stop going that fast)

Disagree times 1,000,000

An intake is a supporting mod to all other mods. An intake alone doesn't net much, but couple the intake with other flow mods and your power will grow exponentially.

An engine is basically a big air pump. Easy breathe in + easy breathe out= happy engine

^^^ i agree with both of you

A car needs to breath like people need to breath, so if you make it breath better, With Intake and DP and Exhaust/Headers etc, then the car can flow air better and thus making more HP by getting more air into it. That's why its good to have turbo or S/C to increase that Forced Induction, and the intake is a Induction mod. Also its supporting mod as stated above.
