slp headers vs. tog headers

so ive finally decided that i dont want the pacesetters and would rather go for one of the higher end brands. I am stuck between the SLP ceramic coated headers, or TOG headers. Does anyone have any preference between these two?
 


And I had another question about the headers, do they bolt right up to the downpipe I have, or do they actually go past the downpipe and get rid of it?
 
If your gonna be spending that much money go for some TOGs. Oh and any set of header's replaces the downpipe with it's own one.
 
they should come with a downpipe that needs to get welded onto your existing cat.

the best set of headers are brand new ones, regardless of what you get. the slp are rumored to tick at the flexpipe and im not sure if the band clamps are up to par with the donut gaskets.

if i were to go back in time and do it again, i would buy the S&S headers right away. i had a hell of a time getting a used set of TOGs to stay sealed. the two piece design of the S&S make it a snap. yeah, the primaries and downpipe are a little smaller, but who cares. it hasnt limited my setup yet and never limited ron running 12.0s on rockers.
 
Hehe lucky for me I got some S&S headers too. Now I just gotta get off my lazy ass find out for myself how great they are :th_biggrin2:.
 
yea i did hear that the s&s were pretty good... i would wanna get the ceramic coated ones... they are like 865$... alot of money, i noticed the crossover is connected to the front header also. havent seen that yet
 


On the S&S's Isnt the 02 sensor bung hole on the crossover section, so its only reading from the 3 front pistons?
 
i noticed that also on the zzp stainless headers that they have an option to take off the egr. what will this do if you take it off? i know it is the exhaust
gas recycling, would it be bad for the car?
 


no EGR is going to throw a check engine code and your mileage may go down.

i dont have mine and my code is set to no report. weight savings.
 
Ya if you don't have a tuner or access to one than you are going to throw some codes and your gas mileage will slightly decrease since it's not adding timing anymore at cruise when the EGR is normally activated.
 
alright, think ill just leave it on then, even though i plan to get a tuner for xmas hopefully. but id rather have it on there. gotta drive this car every day
 
when i get the headers, should i drop the cat, or leave it on? i have heard that if you actually take out too much restriction from the exhaust you may actually lose torque.
 
i personally do not like to drive a car without a cat. it sounds bad, smells bad, and discolors the bumper and tips.

You won't lose any torque by removing it, the whole you need backpressure or else you'll lose low end power doesn't really apply to forced induction set-ups. Do what you want, I'd personally remove it but that's just me. But just an fyi you won't gain that much by removing it either.
 
I've been real happy with my TOGs on my Impala. I was talked into them instead of SLPs, mainly due to the ticking issue. It's also nice to see that a year later, the TOGs still have a nice sheen on them. Ceramic coated, yes, but still. It's one of the cleaner things in my engine bay. TOGs don't take a "standard" downpipe. I got mine from 3800perforance and got the DP from them as well. 2.5" diameter; I didn't need the 3" because my catback is 2.5".
 
hmm, the togs sound good, but now i am hearing that the zzp stainless headers are basically the same thing, but an upgraded version. buying headers is confusing,too many choices haha
