not sure if anyone else has experienced anything like this or not i have a 2004 grand prix gt has 136000 miles on it original motor and trans just did a trans filter and new fluid about 6000 miles ago issue being this sometimes after starting off from a stoplight the car will jerk like its popping into gear but doesnt do it all the time i was wondering if bad cv axles could cause this, im not a hundered percent sure but i think it does more when i stop harder. or worst case internal problem in the tranny ? all other gears fine no slipping same with 1st gear 90% of the time no problem any input is greatly appreciated

You should get the trans scanned for codes.. If it has a p1811 it will need a pressure control solenoid common problem on the 4t65s. The pressure control solenoid has pretty random symptoms when there is a problem with it

thanks, so i wont get a check engine light or anything just symtoms like that ? and how expensive or hard is that to do any special tools needed im pretty mechanically inclined

Sometimes they don't set the check engine light your year I think don't any newer usually do set a check engine light when that's the issue. It's kind of a choir you have to hang the left side of the cradle way down and take the trans side cover off to get to it once you have the cover off its one bolt and connector and done just the side cover is the rough part. Parts are only about 125 at the dealer..

sounds like day of fun getting to it if thats the problem but anyways thanks a bunch , o one more ? is it something that an autozone reader would pick up on?

Yea it would be a good days job with out a lift or shop. I doubt it but you could try. Might have to swing by a tranny shop like amacco I think they pull codes for free

well finally got to a tran shop in my area had it scanned and nothing so i really dont know now and its really spontanious when it happens actually hasnt happened in awhile i was really hoping i would get something but it did not throw any codes.

and i was gonna update sooner but my laptop crashed and i just got it back up and running but thanx for checking back anyway

I just found this: No Forward Cold

I've had a similar kind of thing, that you've described, happening very sporadically when it's been cold. Not as bad as in the article, but it feels like it's slipping and slams into gear.

i have the exact same issue, always curious about it, when i accelerate slower off a stop it doesnt happen, moderate accel to heavy mayb 15% of the time

yea its seems like if i let my foot off the brake and let it roll a bit then go it seems fine so idk

I also have an upgraded pcm from zzperformance and one of the specs says-torque abuse modes are modified to eliminate bog at launch..i believe it also firms up the shifts at each point.. I'm not sure if this is what its referring to or not but it still feels like it firmly catches into 1st gear and it shouldn't have to catch 1st gear at all you would think because it should automatically be in 1st gear when at a stop.

Has anyone ever fixed this scenario without replacing the whole trans? Mine is doing this exact thing and I am curious if it's as simple as changing something like a solenoid or if the problem is internal.

I changed the trans filter and put a quart of Lucas in the new fluid and never had it happen after that
