I am looking at building a computer pretty soon. I am looking for some input.

Looking for suggestions on cooling the CPU as I have read the H60 isn't the best for the Ivy CPUs.


 


Main purpose is for gaming and overall use.

I want a powerful system to last a long time.

I do some video encoding and was thinking about running dual monitors and possibly SLI.
 
Must be a gamer and over clocker rig on a budget. I haven't been into desktops for awhile. But back in the day the only word I trusted was MaximumPC.
I don't game but you can't beat an up-to-date desktop for graphics or media encoding. Sounds fun whatever it is.
 
sounds like a good computer, would stomp my computer and i can play all games on max settings(maybe not this yearwe shall see)

Memory:8 gig of ram dual channeled
Storage: 750 gig 7200 rpm
Video Card: AMD 6970 2gb

h60, oh god. those all in one water coolers still suck a fat one compared to air cooling. you want water, go custom loop. otherwise find a decent air cooler of your choice. only thing those h60's are good for are GPU cooling if you buy a bracket off overclock.net.

i would sway away from asrock motherboards since they do use the cheapest transistors in teh world. there was a website that compared motherboards based on the quality of components used, google should help you find it.

for a power supply get a corsair/seasonic brand one. i7's last forever, my old i7 920 is still whooping ass. idk about kingston ssd's, i know that intel ssd's have the best warranty at the moment. i rock a intel 330 180 gig one i got for 130 bucks.

love my AMD computer setup but is no match for the intel setups. cant wait to make one

cogage true spirit. back when it came out it was a steal for 40 bucks shipped. now you can get a freaking cm 212 that does the same job for 20 bucks.

dont hate on amd setups, even if theyre cpu's are sub-par. theyre awesome for budget rigs and although amd gfx drivers still suck donkey balls, i dont regret getting my 7950.
 
ya my hyper 212+ was $29.99
ya my amd cpu is overclocked to 3.6 to help with its slowness lol, max temp it ever hit is 38 degrees. my 6970...well i should of just waited for the nvidia 580 to come back into stock lols.

I think I am going to stick with the ASrock mobo because it's rated really well everyplace I have checked. Plus it has a lot of features.

I didn't have a power supply added a bigger SSD and included a monitor.

Should be a beast when built though.

Just realized I don't have a sound card either though. lol **FIXED**

Nice build, I would consider the Hyper N520 if you have the funds. You can't go wrong with a solid cooler and I love this one on mine.

It is about double the price, but the push/pull setup really keeps things cold.
For example I am rocking a AMD Athlon B65 x4 processor. If you haven't heard of it, its a xII 565 3.4 Calisto dual core, that is unlocked to a full quad, same as a 965. Then overclocked to 3.72Ghz. I peak at 48*c under full load, idle at 30* in a 76* house. Best cooler I've ever purchased.

For some whorage, my rig. Old CM690 Series 1 cast, custom wrap and window mod. Blue lights inside, I need some complete shots, this was just after the case was wrapped and window was installed.

During tear down, for the mods and frame painting, went Semi-Gloss Black for the frame. You can see the cooler, its HUGE!

the cpu coller he has on his list is a push pull one also, comes with the brackets for the 2nd fan but you have to buy the 2nd 120mm fan
 
Yea but most don't. A buddy has 1 and without the second fan it runs about 10* hotter than mine does with slightly smaller fans. Both work, just food for thought.
