brown stain around badges

2000GTP

New member
my car is white, and i have these stupid brown stains around the badges. does nyone know how to get rid of these?

yeah, because i want to take off the old GRAND PRIX trunk badge and replace it with a GTP badge, but then it would have all that brown stuff where the old badge was.

Yeah it's the type of material they used when the car was made. It's pretty simple, a good solution and buffing wheel would be able to take it off, if not there's always that "Awesome" spray from your local dollar store, with the right type of scrubber that will take it off. If using that method just be sure to wipe it off good with something because that stuff will eat off your paint if you don't clean it off good enough.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask :D.

kerosine and a kitchen sponge will take that **** right off. i do it everyday without harming the paint. i am a detailer. just DO NOT use kerosine of a maybach. kerosine and laquer paint dont mix too well.

where do you get kerosine? and what is a maybach?

exactly. i ended up having to pay for a full repaint. there paint is $1,000 a pint. you can get kerosine at most gas stations.

if you use a little bit of fine grit compound (3M Finesse-it) will take those off. just put a little on a rag and rub the stained areas. then put a little wax around the areas you buffed. should work. let us know how you make out.

what? you ruined a mercedes by rubbing it with compound? what did you use a roofing shingle for a cloth? damn, that sucks. i've been reconing cars for over 10 years, and i've never ruined a paint job, even when i color sand and buff. one of my customers was a local mercedes dealer and i've buffed alot of mercedes (higher end AMG's) in my day, and found they have some of the nicer paint to buff. 3M finesse it is what i use to get swirl marks out of black paint jobs. it's some of the finer stuff out there and it'd be pretty hard to ruin a paint job with that.

Yea i got that same crap on mine Im going to debadge tomorow and throw on some se badges people steal the gtp's like wild fire around here

i use 3M finesse it for white too. i've found that meguire's dual action cleaner/polish works well too. it's a little cheaper than the 3M
