Ive been looking around on here and a lot of people use the cone intakes and I want to put one in I just have a question before I do something I shouldn't

can I just unbolt the stock air box then bolt a cone onto the mass airflow sensor?

I have a 2000 grand prix se

Yes, you can but then you would suck in lots of hot air from the engine bay. Once your IAT sensor see all that hot air it will pull timing and you will lose power.

I can see this if it was the middle of july and 90-100º outside. While the car is moving temps are within 20º of ambient for me, then once you goose it, its even closer to ambient with how much air you are sucking in. Tons of us run hot air intakes with zero problems and no heat shields. You will be fine running it that way.

who cares if it "hot" theres way less zero restriction with a filter on the end of the TB/maf vs a bunch of tubing jammed in a fender...yay for mpg bump or two
