Seen this 2001 GTP coupe with 104K miles that was repo'd. Guy says has no key, 1700 for it.

Wondering if its worth buying and getting title in my name so I can have a GM dealership get me the key.

That would be roughly 125-150 for key and 100$ or so for title, and if it don't run its not good situation.
 


Well it is a gtp so if.it don't start at least u got some good stuff for a top swap. I wouldn't pay more than 1000 for it personally. Just tell the guy 1000 no more cause there's no guarantee it'll start

Edit: if u do get it though I would change the oil first and make sure there's no sludge in the oil and check out all the fluids...ie anti freeze and all. Leak free would be nice

Is there a title? is it legallay in teh said owners name? i would have alot of questions before thinking about working on the car.
 


The car is not bank owned now? I wouldn't pay more than $800 bones for it though. i would not give up the cash until there was a hard copy title that I can hold that is legit.
 
My question would be how does a 12 year old car get redo'd in the first place, and what type of person owned(had) it before and was so broke they couldnt pay for it, imagine what they could have done. we see horror storys all the time about kids messing these cars up. it just throws up alot of red flags for me i wouldnt touch it without alot of research

The car had loan on it, the person who took the loan went behind so many months, I never asked how much, the bank/finance company just wants the rest of the money for the car basically, to pay the loan off, and yes they have the title.

If the car is reposed then who ever was the driver, does not own the title! If she/she owned the tittle, a repo would be grand theft.
 
Wow thats an expensive GP key. last time one of my customers went out drinking and lost all his keys all I had to do was call with the VIN and it was ready when I got there, $16.

If it is bank owned have them get a key, then test it out. That way you can prove who legally owns it and know what your getting.
 
I would never buy a repo car, if they couldnt afford to make the payments that means something else on the car got neglected, ie routine maintenance like oil changes, checking fluids and such.
 


You forgot to add in the cost of a tow from where you get it to the dealer for the key.

I don't see it being a bad investment. I had a friend buy a repo'd 98 Daytona from a buy here pay here and it ran pretty good. He ended up driving it for like 6 months then making a cash sale for more than he paid.

Keep in mind general maintnance, Oil filter, oil, spark plugs, wires, air filter, pcv, cabin filter, valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets, wheel bearings, maf, struts, and o2 sensors are all things that should be checked or replaced on any used vehicle purchase. As long as you're prepared for that, you won't be let down.
