Is your ABS and TCS light on? This should help!

Okay,

So you have the problem where your ABS and TCS lights come on at the same time. At first it seems random, then it happens more and more. Eventually it gets to the point where its on almost all the time and its very annoying and once winter comes your gonna be screwed. Well that sucks:th_thumb-down:.

So what do you do?

Your most likely going to need to change a wheel bearing. They are really the only moving parts in the ABS/TCS systems.

But how do I know which one is bad I don't wanna just replace em all :th_sick2: !!

What your gonna need:
-Voltage/Resistance Meter
-Small gator clips with insulation over em (can get this at radioshack)
-Jack
-Tie rod or whatever to take off tires
-Patients/Hope
:th_laugh-pointup:
-Oh and 50-100 bucks for a new bearing

Okay so you gotta jack up your car first. Once you get either the back or front jacked up (doesn't matter which you do first), you are gonna have to take off the tires. Next take your insulated gator clips and put em the wire tabs inside of the connector connected to the bearing. Get the meter connected to the tabs (its a lot easier with two people) and put the meter on the setting that measures resistance. You should get around 1000-1080 ohms. As your rotate the caliper (make sure you put it in neutral to spin the caliper when doing front wheels) you will see the ohm reading change. This reading should be around your original number +/- 50 ish I would say.

Look for any weird changes in the readings. Some will randomly drop down to zero ohms, this would mean that it is a bad bearing. BAM! If you get that reading you know to change that bearing and your problem will most likely be solved.

Now when you put all the stuff together (hopefully you don't have to deal with every seized bolt in the world doing the processes ha) you will turn on the vehicle and take it for a test ride. The light will probably still be on. Turn the car off, turn it back on. Then do it about 5 more times stopping at places as you test drive increasing the speed after each stop. Eventually the ABS sys should reset itself and your good to go

=) Good Luck

Nice write up.... but its not always a bearing that sets the lights... the wires go bad too that run into the harness

I believe my wires going to my wheel bearing is bad, also. Having trouble finding the wiring though, seems like it's only sold where you have to solder the connector to the wiring...

Ebcm... The wires to the sensor right where it turns up from the control arm to the connector the wires always break there water sits in there and that's the main moving point of the harness when u steer which eventually will cause a break in the wire. Pretty rare that the bearing is actually the cause unless its growling very loud and severely loss

That's interesting. I haven't checked ALL of that wiring from the sensor to the connector. I better go recheck it...

Pull back the black loom and right there in the bend u can bend it if it bends like a perfect 90 not a curved 90 u have a break in the wire. A lot if time the speed sensor with the problem u can disconnect it and tug on it and u will find the break cause the insulation will just pull apart and u will have the end of the harness in ur hands. U can just soldier the wires back together and good to go. Wires will be yellow and green

The side with the problem is the body side not the sensor side of the connector. It's where it comes up from the control arm to the connector

this is great thanks for write up man because i have this problem right now actually. wish had pic's up to help show where wiring is on 01 gtp but im sure can fig it out.

The wiring is not hard to find. Jack the car up, turn the wheel to the side and you will see where the wires go up toward the bottom of the wheel bearing.

And if the light is random, more chances than not, its the wiring. If it were the bearing the light would be constant.

mine is at random. i'll double check it man thanks. next thing really wanna fig out is damn low coolant light coolant is topped off good in the bottle as well and also the coolant sensor on the radiator brand new. i checked wiring it's not jumping around in voltage or nothing crazy staying at constant like it should.i can't fig out why it does it. the temp on guage as well stay's normal except in stop/go traffic bumper to bumper will go up replace thermostat soon though with the one got from zzp just a 180 for now. but hopefully that will fix issue. the coolant clean as well no deposit's.

How do you reset the system... Do you have to brake, turn off the car turn it on again? Then do the process again until it goes off or just keep braking hard until the light goes off?

My is messed up to I had new bearing put on but still have the abs and tc light on is it pretty easy to put a new wire harness on????

I have an abs issue, but Im pretty certain its not my hubs as they all spin nicely. I sure hope its as simple as a broken/grounded wire and not the module itself.. Fyi you can't remove a wheel with a tie rod, nor can you spin a caliper :).

my quick check on wheel bearings, grab the top of the wheel(car on the ground) and shake it toward you then away. if there is any play, bad bearing. If you can't move the tire go inside and find your big boy pants, and try again. if there is no play your good to go!!
