Straight Pipes on GTP?

Will there be enough back pressure to change my mufflers to straight pipes on the GTP? I have a 97 GTP with CAI, and 3" SS Random Tech High Flow Cat Downpipe. Will straight piping work? anybody know if it sounds decent? will it give any performance gains?

NO!
Been there done that before i knew these cars.
When your WOT is the only time it would do any good what so ever.

so if anything, just get better mufflers i guess... not really looking to do full exhaust, to expensive when I can get a downpipe, smaller pulley, mufflers/tips, PLOG, and PCM for about what I would pay for a decent exhaust... IDK tho

Unless your at the track, and have a lot of mods that might benifit you dropping your exhaust...then leave it stock to on and fully complete. if you want to change the exhaust note or rumble, change only the mufflers. Leave everything else there, cat...resonator for example. You can do other mods like a 3" down pipe and the u-bend delete, with out changing too much of the rumble or stock sound, but fully gutting the system of the cat AND resonator is bad enough...running no mufflers...little red-neck-ish my man. :p

Yee Haa!

Yeah, the corsa exhaust sounds freakin sweet. I want to say there is a post on here somewhere that has a sound clip of it. But, don't do straight pipe. You'll like it for about a week or two and then wish you hadn't done it.

I'm pretty happy with my Magnaflows and no res. Mellow around town and can barely tell its there on the highway, no drone.

But the Corsa is one of my favs thus far.

Are you kidding? Have you heard the Corsa w-body kit on a 3800? :th_drooling:

just like every other exhaust out there. its a v6. just listened to the sound clip too. not that impressive, and he didnt even rev it up high so we could hear the tell tale exhaust note that we all love oh so much.

if i could make it so that i hear NO exhaust at all, id do it in a heartbeat.

1. Yes it will work.

2. It will be LOUD and sound like crap.

3. Any aftermarket exhaust for a GP will give minimal gains unless your more heavily modified.

Just leave the stock catback and get an electric cutout.

I agree, our 6 cylinders do not sound good with a loud exhaust. dang it!!:th_angry-teeth:

i run no cat, dynomax resonator and stock mufflers. sounds good and cant even hear it on the highway. x2 on straight pipes being gay

Is the electric cutout worth the cost? I can't imagine it would boost the HP all that much... or am I wrong?

You won't gain much from it if your lightly modded like I said before, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than getting an aftermarket catback.

I cant say too much, since I hate the rasp and drone of my car. However 2 of my friends run no mufflers on a 97 and 2004 gp. Just pipe replacing the mufflers, cat and res were left alone. The 97 actually doesnt sound bad at all, not much rasp or drone, the 04 sounds like a gunshot when starting and has a bit of drone.

my 96 gp had the same setup, it actually sounded better than a 60v6 with flows. Still quiet with a bit of rumble to it. No rasp or tin can sound.
