Need serious help with my aeroforce, clueless and out of ideas!

Hokay so,

I bought an Aeroforce in like march of 2012, I had a Kenwood Mp342u head unit connected with a gmos-01 harness, worked beautifully for like 5 months, not a single issue with the gauge or the head unit.

Got a new head unit, got a gmos-04 harness with it, also an aftermarket satellite receiver so I could get my XM back, hooked it all up, works good for like 2.5 months, smooth sailing through calm seas, happy times.

Weather starts to get cold, battery kicks the bucket, replaced.

2 days later Im driving home at night and my gauge shuts off like I shut off the car and opened the door, face goes dark and the 2 little LED's blink. Gauge resets, starts up again... shuts off again

EVER since that night, my gauge has done this non-stop, just shutting off, reseting, and shutting off again. It seems for the most part like it runs solid until the car gets up to temp, then it starts it's never ending reset cycle. Sometimes it stays on a few seconds longer, sometimes it resets instantly once the data comes up. Im only running Coolant temp and IAT at the moment.

It keeps running solid if I take it off scan mode and put it into set up mode.

Gauge manufacturer says the following:
"What is happening is that the gauge is running, then for whatever reason it stops seeing data traffic on the car's bus system so it thinks the car is off and turns off. Then once it turns off, it sees bus traffic in the system and starts up again, thinking the car is running again.. Then it stops seeing traffic again and etc. You know it's not a power issue because it doesnt shut off when you have it in set up mode, but only in scan mode, so it's an issue with the data it's seeing or not seeing."

But he has no explanations on what might cause it beyond add on electronics.... I disconnected the aftermarket satellite tuner, no change. I read that having the factory tuner connected at the same time as an aftermarket one can cause a bus conflict. I removed the factory tuner, no change. I removed the aftermarket tuner again and just left the factory one in... nothing. I put it back to the set up I had when it worked perfectly for 6 months, no change. I put it back to COMPLETE STOCK, factory head unit with no extras, no change. It's still doing this with the stock radio and no harnesses, it's still doing it with the identical set up that had it working perfectly for half a year too.

What the effing hell? Does anyone have suggestions or ideas? Im getting desperate and Im thinking about asking him to take it back and look at it, and hopefully replace it. He says he really seriously doubts it's an issue with the gauge though.. And I dont have another GM car that uses the PT gauge to test it on.

Here's the thread in which I've been discussing the issue with the manufacturer.

Please haaaaalp.

No, Todd at Aeroforce said it wouldnt need it, since it's not losing power.. it's voluntarily shutting itself off because it's losing data from the OBD port and thinking the car is off.

Do you think that would change things?

Well since its a pontiac, it should have the dedicated power anyways.

You can't know that its shutting off because of the data or because of the lack of power without a scope or some other method to test it.

Well, I mentioned earlier that when you take it off scan mode and put it into set up, or even the main menu it'll stay on all day long... then the moment it goes into scan mode, or maybe 10-15 seconds at the most, boom, reset city.

Which is the same behavior as if the car is actually off, it'll stay on in set up mode, but once you put it into scan it says "oops car's off..." and shuts down.

That's what made me (and I guess Todd) think it's not a power issue

ive heard of it turning off before due to not having direct power and coming back on but nothing about reseting

I have personally seen the aftermarket models like the gmos-** causing data issues. I see it on almost every scoche model that does the same similar function. Just a thought.

I'd pull the jumper and run the switched 12v power wire.

Yeah Im gunna try to run a constant power and see if that helps...

As for the gmos-** harness, crutchfield first sent me a crux brand unit that had my entire gauge cluster dying off as well as having abs and trac control die completely and putting out all kinds of DTC's and DIC warnings.

They refunded me for that and sent me the gmos-04, I had the gmos-01 in the car for like 3 years before that with no issues, with the aeroforce for over half a year and the gmos-04 made everything better, Aeroforce ran for almost 3 months with the gmos-04 in it, plus 6 months previous with the gmos-01 until all this started. Also I mentioned that I put back the original factory head unit with no aftermarket harness, just straight to the vehicle link.. and no improvement. :\

When I connect the switched 12v, but not the obd ii link, should the gauge atleast power on with the switched power or will it not power on at all without the obd ii connected?

There's something else that happens with them and makes them freak. Holler at Pat 2003 SSEi, he ran into it when he got his and I forget if it's scan rate or security something...but yeah. He's the guy.
