ok so a p1404 is showing up some one told me it was egr valve acting up but wanted to get a different opinion so hope someone can help me i failed emissions so im think that could be why.

their might be some carbon buildup in the passage way leading to the egr valve. take it off and see if there's carbon buildup first before you do anything.

also,make sure when you post you give the specs of your car. model, engine, stock or modified.
