Amsoil Nanofiber filters VS. ALL

Hey everyone. Before my Amsoil Nanofiber 4" x 9" cone filter I had a KN panel filter. After about 10K miles of driving with that the entire inside of my throttle body collected a nice film of sludge. I installed my Wizair a few weeks ago and used a 4" x 9" Spectre Oiled cone filter. It was cheap and oiled, I'm assuming it was close in performance to a KN. Well I did some research online and read about Amsoils "Nanofiber" filters. They are supposed to get 25% better filtration and still maintain excellent flow. I bought one and installed it. My supercharger is significantly louder and the car is more responsive with the Non-oiled Nanofiber Amsoil filter. The US military has been using Nanofiber filtration in the M1A1 Abrams take for more than a decade. Its about time we got to put it in our cars!

Anyone else used one? They kicka*s!
 


I was getting ready to move this, but its probably fine in either the engine or tech sections. So I'll cut you some slack, LOL

Ive been a dealer for a very very long time and I LOVED their 2-stage foam filters, but a great number of people apparently had problems following directions with the re-oiling and would over do it and it would contaminate their MAF and then cause drivability issues. There have been similar issues with the K&N filters too.

I hated to see the foam filters go but the stats on the Nanofiber filters are impressive. They use the same material in their oil filters too and they have a rating of an Absolute Efficiency (which is an industry term saying that the filter is 97.8% efficient) at 15 microns. There is no other filter on the market that I am aware of that can state that.

Their air filters are nearly 100% efficient at 2 microns. Thats significant because if you stop it at air filter, then it doesnt get into the engine and that helps to keep your oil even cleaner and thus last longer and you get longer engine life due to less abrasive contaminant wear.

When I finally switched to the Nanofiber air filter (They make cone filters just like K&N and OEM panel filters) it cut my silicon levels in half. Silicon, on an oil analysis report, is an indication of dirt ingestion.

So I miss my foam filters but I am rather impressed with the Nanofiber filters. They dont make one for my Rodeo, so Im going to convert it over to a Cone filter and put one on there as soon as I get a chance. I'll do the same for the wifes Jeep.

I have several co-workers that have bought the filters from me, several of my neighbors, my boss even and they all have reported being really happy with the filter and several reported fuel economy gains but I cant say if that was due to the filter install or if it was the fact that the old filter was dirty or something like that.
 
These filters look very promising and they will be in my shopping cart next time i need an air filter. I believe i saw an independent study somewhere comparing these filters to the competition but i don't remember where i saw it. I will post it on here if i can find it.

Also the cone filter that people get for the wizaired [EaAU4090] has an filtered opening on the end. Now this hasn't been confirmed but i would assume you would increase air flow even more and that increased volume is always helpful.
 
Yea I forgot to mention that. The filter does have an opening on the top. I believe the KN doesnt have that.

Thats true, that's why I went with a 4x9 cone filter which flows easily enough CFM for our engines.

Are you a student in Dekalb, I go to NIU and I see thats your location?

Acually I go to Kishwaukee Community College just down the road (I'm cheap), but I'm normally partying up around NIU almost every weekend.
 


I like my K&N 9" cone.

Only when I first got it did it coat the inside of my intake with oil. Since then I have washed it and re oiled it a few times, and it has not done it since. Problem with K&N's is damn near everyone always over oils them. Ya it takes some time to clean and re oil them, but I only do mine about once every 3 years, and I live on a dusty sand street. Though I do not drive my car daily might help with that.

These sound interesting though, I'm in for more info.

I've ran K&N and S&B filters for years and I have never had oil coating issues with my MAF or TB. Even so, I have some MAF cleaner and I tend to clean all my MAFs every few months or so, they are always clean, never get much if any dirt.

I agree with Farnsworth, I think people over oil there filters a bit too much. IIRC in the instructions it says to LIGHTLY oil the filter, let it set for a bit, and hit any areas you might of missed....
