pound a large flat blade screw driver into it. (not through it tho) crank it out. i used a adjustable wrench on the handle of the screw driver to turn it out. some are torx too, not a allen head. so if the allen is spinning take a better look for the star points.

once air gets to the coolant, a brown sludge builds up. at the rad cap, the over flow tank. and so on.

dremel, steady hand, big screwdriver. Mark a straight line into middle and across, once deep enough so big screwdriver won't slip off you remove the plug. Replace plug.

GM# 24500661 - Retail $8.03 from dealer. Good luck finding one somewhere else, but you can Google search, may get lucky.

The plug doesn't have to be torqued down, just snug tight and go.

Damn that's exactly what it was.... F***ing replaced the radiator for nothing it seems. Though it was really nasty in there

truthfully its really hard to flush out radiators and heater cores, gunks likes to stick in them... so replacing it wasn't completely for nothing, now have a cleaner system. May consider flushing the system over the weekend just to get out as much as you can.

More issues lol I can't get the alternator out... I bought the Hayes manual and this thing is about worthless I only see one bolt it's off and the wiring is off but this is as solid as ever, I starting to feel like this is the first time I have ever worked on a car.... Any ideas what I am missing?

2 bolts holding it goober. Front bolt by the belt, and you see that top brace... it goes down into the bracket, gotta remove bolt

coupler was super loose, new one is stupid tight..... I love it though hard to get it on, and I forgot to get supercharger oil lmao, back to the store

i would suggest next time removing supercharger for a full oil/coupler change. do you have any idea how long your engine bay is going to stink? plus that SC oil smell will start to seep into your passenger compartment.

i would rather pay for a SC gasket, LIM coolant orings, injector orings, than go threw that mess.

As soon as its all put back togeather it's strait to the car wash lol.... I managed to cut myself as some point and I am bleeding pretty good so taking a break right now super charger is back on. Alternator is half on I think I lost a bolt though..... It never ends

Best to go all the way into Patriot GMC in Killeen to get that SC oil. Two bottles for about $23. It takes both bottles and I'm not sure if the parts stores in cove have SC oil.

The part stores do not I tried all four... Looks like the car will be sitting for a few more days till I can make it out to a junk yard for the bolt I lost, I smell aweful, bleeding badly and can't get the alternator to sit right, not been a productive day, and to boot the girlfriend is pissed cause I left my phone open to GPF and she read about how I acquired the car. Lol thank god I have to work in a few hours

I feel bad for you on 1 account. I just caught the alternator part and figured you were replacing it or doing something else. Had I known you were going for the coupler I could have saved you some headache. That's what I get for skimming instead of reading.

1st and FOREMOST... Gloves. double wrapped like your about to attack a french whore. That old fluid is some nasty nasty stuff. My first coupler change, I got some on my hands, gasoline wouldn't get the smell out. GF wouldn't let me touch her for 2 days because they stunk after it soaked into the skin.

2nd a towel stuffed up at the base of the snout will soak up the excess oil and keep it from going everywhere in your engine bay.

3rd... you didn't have to take off the Alternator. I didn't on mine. all but the last bolt behind the alternator and let it stay threaded in a little for support and you can pop the snout off... slide it back like you would a caliper on the pins so you can clean the snout and rotate it back and lay it across the alternator. It gives plenty of room to take a couple rags, clean the base, around the gears, remove the coupler and replace. Rotate snout back forward, line up holes on shaft and press back firmly and screw bolt back down after laying a line of RTV. Simple and done.

Thanks good notes if I have to replace that damn thing again. I figured what the hell and looked one more time before heading in and low and behold I completely missed with the bottom bolt on the alternator. I felt like it was catching on something but never got tight so I put that in the correct hole and low and behold everything fit back into place. Then I found the missing bolt... HURRAY ME!!! Belt 1 belt on no problems... Could my luck be turning around? Of course not.. Wrech slipped off of second tensioner and I got a shock when it touched the positive battery terminal. Not bad but enough to make me jump. My gf thought this was hilarious and is no longer mad I put her on blast on the Internet lol 4 out of 5 ain't bad I suppose will pick up supercharger oil in the morning and try the belt again then as well. Hopefully my check comes in tommorow and I can get two new tires then everything will be awesome-sauce!!!! Thanks for all the help.

I would say no go on the "kit". Cat back is useless, canned tunes are no good, and you need to scan and tune to drop pulleys. Have you read the safely modding your 3800 thread? It goes over everything you need to know.

Oh and you could source all those parts new/used for much less on the for sale section here

Yeah stay away from the performance "kits" all the sites sell.
Best bet is

  • SD headers, look on ebay ~$220
  • 3.4 pulley pulley puller will set you back a little bit. I think its like $40 to rent one then another $90 for the MPS if you get it new, search for sale section people sell them all the time.
  • autolite 104's I think they are $2 a piece.
  • custom tune.
  • 180* tstat
Then I would call it a day.
