• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Hoping I can get more life out of it...

So my trans on my 03 GT seems to be slipping every once in a blue moon. Fluid is dark grey, about to drop the pan to see whats up. Replace the filter and fluids and add Lucas Stop Slip. What are the chances that just the filter being clogging dropping line pressure thus making it shift hard? Heres hoping..

all of the above really.

if its just slipping a little bit, a pan drop and filter and some lucas may save you. i'd take it easy on it for the rest of its life though. its been neglected for sure if the fluids brown. most never even think to service the trans, and let ig till a problem happens, not say you, but the last owners. very few of us bought these cars new, so just in general.

Even if it's a pcs, most find that a shift kit and lucas will band aid them for a good amount of time.

Ha it was me that neglected it. Had the car since it had 4k on it. Now has 97k on it.

your about 40,000 miles over due, PA's not a flat state, so the trans has to work harder up the hills and what not. city driving a b1tch too.

it should be dex 3 97-03, 04 stuff changed a bit. if you still have the owners manual it would tell you in there for sure.

Just got back from WalMart, they had this Castrol Transmax stuff so I got that with a bottle of Lucas StopSlip. Gotta say though it was shifting great. Got into all 4 gears nice and smooth, downshifted nice. Starting to wounder if it was even slipping in the first place. If its a healthy trans will the StopSlip hurt it?

Gonna pick up a filter on my way to work tonight and do this all tomorrow. Thinking I got a good chance of getting a healthy trans with a fluid flush being its shifting so smooth.

dont do a full flush of the trans, just the pan and filter, thats about 1/2 the fluid.

the trans stuff should not hurt anything. it just makes things tighter.

Yeah, I'm just dropping the pan, replacing the filter then topping it off. About how much fluid will be needed to top it off after the pan is back on? I gotta back it out of my drive way before I get a level being my driveway is slopped.

put 7 quarts back in, (fill to the cold line, check when running) then let it warm up, re check when its all warmed up, fill as needed. when warmed up.
