TB differences between 97 and 98-03 TBs

so i went and picked up a referb MAF bc mine is messed up. top cover is loose, and where the connector plugs in is cracked and loose.

the MAF i got was from a 02 Regal GS. one from the regal is a square design, the one in my TB is round and my TB does not have that recess in the throat, but a tube the MAF goes down into that directs air flow to the heated coils. almost like it is ported.

needless to say i have a extra MAF that i cant use. which year TB do i have? i have a 97 but it has a 98+ SC on it. not sure if they brought over the TB from the 98+ or kept the 97.

i just put my extra maf from my 98 regal into a 98 gtp, and its was the same part # and looked the same.

i got my maf for my 98 regal from a N/A car too. the same part # spans gm's cars quite a bit.

i just searched at autozone, sure enough the 97 year model has a round chamber where the heated coils sit and a 02 has the square chamber

edit: changed to the square style in 99. anyone want a 99+ MAF? lol

looks like the 97-98 TB are less restrictive, being they dont have that huge molding hanging down in the TB you get ported out with the "high flow" TBs

you mean 97-98 are more restrictive. they have a piece that goes from the top to bottom to hold the maf. bigger restriction!!

Does it really matter?

If you're going to be spinning that blower fast enough to matter, you'll want a larger throttle body period.
