I just got a 2000 GT! Question about making it sound better

My dad has a G8 GXP, and I love the low, powerful rumble of his car. Also, where I used to work someone had a car identical to mine but it also had a low rumble. How can I achieve this with mine? I'm guessing just a nice exhaust?

Thanks in advance for any help! I greatly appreciate it!

they also have alot of sound bites for exhaust mods on your car for the purpose on knowing what you getting into some people suggest a glasspack for a more aggressive tone
right now I'm having the opposite problem as you where my car is running on straight pipes and very loud but incredibly raspy at higher rpms before the deletion of my cat I think the sound was good the main problem your going to have is wanting that rumble and getting it at lower rpms isn't incredibly difficult but once you get into the higher revs the cylinder firing becomes less distinctive and many call it a drone rather than rumble best bet though is check out a cherry bomb or magnaflow glasspack and listen to the sound bites to make sure thats what your looking for the muffler shop close to me had said for knock off cherry bomb installation 30+" would run me about 120 hope this helps

Thanks! That was a lot of help!

Yeah, I would definitely call it a drone now that you say that.
Basically, it's just a perfectly smooth rumble that resonates throughout his house when he starts it up in the garage. When he pulls up and sits in the driveway, you know he's home haha. But it's not annoying sounding, it's just super low and super smooth. It makes a car sound like it has power behind it, ya know?

Thanks again for all yalls help! Any further input will still be appreciated!

That's because of the correct # of cylinders and the displacement.

Your 3.8 liter transversely mounted, crappy style'd factory exhaust placement won't ever sound like that.

You want something that isn't chambered...think Borla, Corsa, SLP, Dynomax...

The factory catback performance wise won't net you anything. If you're just looking for sound...buy a universal muffer and whatever tips you want to run, hack out the resonator and replace it with a long glasspack..think 20 inches or longer (30" max)...and if you want hack out the cat if you don't have emissions...or if you do...just toss a universal Magniaflow HFC in there. That'll change up the tone as well.

Get a big cam and then you will have the powerful sound that you are looking for. Otherwise it will sound like poop, no matter the set up (some better than others, but still poop).

yeah if you want a rumble, on these cars you have to install a cam. no exhaust alone that ive heard gives these cars a low rumble. still do an exhaust by all means just its just fun haha, but cam=rumble. as blueguy said, for exhausts you want to look at ones that dont have chambered mufflers, which means stay away from flowmasters!!!! haha you want to look at borla, corsa, slp. im not to sure about dynomax, their exhausts are cheaply priced and i usually go by you get what you pay for (although there are sometimes exceptions), and i havent heard a dynomax exhaust i liked on a grand prix yet. ive heard borla's they sound good, i have a corsa myself and i love it! and slp's sound pretty good too. but borla and corsa are definitely the top 2 brands for exhausts for these cars. ill attach some vids so you can hear mine (remember cam=rumble and i dont have a cam so dont let that steer you away from corsa haha). ok so after all i said about exhausts what i would recommend doing is looking for a USED borla or corsa catback, unless you want to spend around $1200 on a new one lol most people wouldnt, i wouldnt (i got my corsa catback used for $425). a used catback is going to be just as good as a new one, borla and corsa used stainless steel so no rust. worst thing would be scratched tips and you can always polish those, or if the scratches are really bad save up for new tips. you wont find a used borla/corsa catback in bad shape unless someone literally beat the sh!t out of it lol.
