I was wondering if anything has been tried with the 3.4dohc as in mods?:th_laugh-lol3:After market superchargers?Turbo kits?NOS:NOS1:?Even a ram air induction intake system? Something must be out there or has been tried?
Enyone heard of a supercharged 3.4 dohc

RSM racing makes a supercharger for newer 3.4s in impalas, montes, grand ams, etc. Maybe look into something like this or check out a website like zzperformance.com and see what is there for a grand am 3.4 or something that would fit. Or just put a 3.8 s/c in and do a few things to it and call it a day. lol.
If you're talking about the 91-97 Twin Dual cam variant of the 3.4, I havn't heard of any supercharger kits, but I'm currently looking into turbocharging one on my GP. You could obviously throw on a cold air intake, change to E3 spark plugs and performance spark wires, do all the small modifications for now....then when you do all the more extensive changes, look into a tranny that can take the abuse from the additional torque, cuz the current 4 speed isn't rated for over 300 ft./lb of torque

DOHC = Dual Overhead Cam, so yes, he's referring to the Twin Dual Cam, and not the 3400 that bronze is referring to. I've never seen a supercharger kit for one, and I don't see how you'd fit one in that engine compartment. However, there are quite a few LQ1 owners out there that have turboed their motors, and thrown down some impressive numbers. You'll find tons of info on that stuff at 60degreeV6.com.

Hmmm, Well that's not all that great of news.Ya I do agree theres not very much room in the cockpit of the 91-97 with the 3.4 twin DOHC.With all these under mount turbo systems ,after market supercharger systems no has really heard much?
The tranny in these things is to bad,you would think though's guys in the tranny department would of been able to build something to withstand 275hp.Now that I have 2 of them ,one of them would be interesting to soop up a bit.

Did you not read any of this thread already? The 3.4 DOHC DOESN'T have superchargers available for it...because the aftermarket support sucks.

I think maybe I should look at just installing a performance exhaust,not loud though.Not sure on horsepower gain & brand?

that Red Z34 with the M90 Supercharger on it is actually one of my friends. I have done some of the tuning for his setup. In order to bolt up that Eaton M90 he had to make a custom upper intake manifold to bolt to the lower. and then a support bracket to hold the weight of it all.
there is plenty someone could do to this engine. but you need access to a CNC shop pretty much to get any of it to work.
there are no real aftermarket providers for these engines.
What year Monte do you have? if you have a 96 or 97 there are some tuning options that would help you out alot! GM locked away a bunch of power on these engines. my car pretty much shows what can be done if you want to stay N/A if you want to go boost the best option like said it a Turbo. the good thing is with the high compression of these engines you dont need much boost to make a lot more power.
as for the trany. yes they are the weak link in the car. a good performance rebuild, shift kit, gear swap, and PCM (computer) tuning of the shift points will go a very very long way at allowing you to handle that power.
if you have a specific idea of the kind of power you want let me know and i can help figure out what it will take to get you there. Exhaust was mentioned and yes that can help. FYI anything over 2.5" will cause you to loose a bunch of low end Tq.
Basically this is the order of mods for this engine from my experience:
-FWI Fender Well Intake
-2.5" Exhaust system
-180* thermostat
-Port match throttle body-Upper intake mandifold- lower intake manifold
-Tune Car's PCM
Years ago there were a few companys that sold mods for the car such as:
-larger TB's -Ported Upper and lower intake manifolds - Headers -Light weight Underdrive pulleys -PCM's and tuning equipment.
But these all have closed up and it is almost impossible to find any of these parts.
I still have my tuner for the car and can tune 96 and 97 DOHC but would need the PCM to be sent to me. or i can send my spare PCM but i will charge a $150 core deposit until i recieve your old PCM in working condition. i have done tuning on the 3800 series engines as well both NA and SC'd If anyone is interested or has more questions my email is [email protected]

Unless you go Centripetal SC u r gonna do what he did... Cause an M90 or M62 won't fit under the hood on a DOHC
Any SC is gonna take a crap load of work to install and a good pocket book for the custom parts that will need to be made

From what I have read, the engine was originally rated at 300hp, and chevy tried for almost 2 years to come up with an automatic transmission that could handle it. Finally, GM modified it so it would only output the currently rated 210hp. I have read some accounts of people advancing the timing and tuning the PCM (and some other non-invasive things) to get the 300hp back. As far as mods, I've only seen stuff (like what you see above) jerry-rigged together. Kinda makes you LOL huh?

This is what I am interested in:
I just finished rebuilding a 91 GTP I found on craigslist with only 74000 miles. I replaced all the rubber, gaskets, and belts throughout the process as well as most of the filters and fluids (it had set in storage for a long time). One of the coils is pretty weak so I'll prolly replace all of them too.
Anyways, now that it's running well, I want to start modding but cant drop the EGR because I live in an emissions controlled area so I was wondering how I should go about this, there doesn't seem to be much room under there for stuff, specially around the intake.
Also, There is one of these in a nearby junkyard (in a lumina) I've been picking at...Should I grab anything from it before it gets crushed? Should I start with a cold air intake and try to rout it through the wheel well? I think I would need to move the battery to do that. Any particular size I should use?
Anyway, sorry for reviving this but it's one of the few modding threads for the LQ1. Thanks for the help though!

If I were in your position I would do the following to get the most out of ur engine:
Find a 96,97 DOHC and get it's upper lower intake set. Coil bracket You should be able to block the new style egr and pop the plug out of the newer imtake to fit your style egr. With these intake parts you can start porting them. For info look me up on cardomain as I have a good number of pics from when I ported mine.
Next well should be first build a cold air/ FWI. I have plans on my car domain.
These cars have an air injection port that blocks the exhaust manifold. I would remove these ports bu still leave the system active
For tuning you don't. Have many choices for your year car. I would go to 60degreev6.com and visit their store for their prom chips.
All DOHC's I have seen run lean so I would install colder spark plugs and test the fuel psi to make sure it is correct.
Then I would look into a gear swap, turbo and stand alone fuel system for it

That's because you've come to the wrong place. Most Grand Prix forums are created specifically for the '97 & up models. They like to pretend GPs didn't exist prior to that, and only the L67 matters to them. However, if you go to 60DegreeV6.com, you will find TONS of info on modding the LQ1, from n/a, to custom turbos. There are also knowledgeable people on w-body.com since there are FAR more Gen I w-bodies on there.
