Fram oil filters - crap or not??

i use fram on everything i own except the racebike. i use a honda filter with her. never had an issue with a fram.
 


I haven't read all these posts but I've heard about Fram and I use fram on bikes and sometimes cars if it is handy.

I've taken a hacksaw and gently cut around the base of Frams and other "better" brands to look at the filter media inside.

Sure, Fram may not be constructed to survive a nuclear blast, but of the handful of filters I've cut apart they were intact. Bypass valves, I didn't really pay to much attention to but will next time.
 
Well, has anybody decided anything.....Other than 'most people seem to get by with a fram under normal service.
For any rough service application anythingbutafram is the filter of choice.....
I been running a tall can napa, delco and a carquest on my little 427..10 qts delo and a jug of lucas.
Been spinning the motor 7k 7200 for several minuets at a time...looking for a 7600 rev chip...
Probably have 50 hrs on it...Had to pull the motor to flip the hull for repair...pulled the pan for a look..
Looks about perfect. Motor has killer oil pressure...65 psi @ 220* with the hammer down and 55 @ 1100.
Even cam looks tits...swapped in a .740 x 290 @ .050 deal...240 on the seat 600 over the nose....Something
i found that was kind of odd #1-#8 intake rocker needs a corner ground to clear v covers...I mixed up the
rockers and got 2 regular ones there..5-6 hrs run time i see a little oil on the intake...got to looking
and the anodized aluminum rockers had worn holes through chrome metal v-covers...

Aside from the fact that you have run 3 sentences together into one, that sounds about as reliable and reputable as going by something because 'the Internet says'.

What does he know about filters specifically? Why do they suck? What is different about Wix that makes them better?

Really? WIX filters are 85% efficiency, the lowest cost ORY filter (made by Fram) is 92%, lowest cost Fram filter is 95%. Guess it's just a matter of how much dirt your willing to let through your engine.

You must be a democrat..lol
That there 95% turns into about 20% on each and every cold start-up..So actually, until the oil has reached sufficient temp that the internal engine oil pressure remains closed all the time,that there fram filter will
actually pump more debris through the engine.....

And in case it matters...the only filter that fram makes that seems to have caused all the problems is the
bottom of the line el-cheapo filter...it seems to have the internal structural integrety of a wet noodle....

And i might as well admit it.....because fram is about the only filter in this town...i been running a fram racing
filter.....40 wt valvo racing oil/plugged filter bypass...been warming the oil to 150* before using the hammer...
My deal makes 88 psi @ 7100 rpm....used 2 so far..cut both open...i don't see any problems...did have small issue
with delco filter.....small can means limited filter capacity....Had machine shop power hone cylinders to get some rather expensive rings to seal....3 hrs run time had quite a bit of cylinder wall material in the oil and what the filter had trapped pretty much plugged it..oil pressure increased with rpm till about 4 k where it stayed the same until 5k and then began to decrease....still making 50psi + so it didn't hurt anything....motor runs so clean @ 50 hrs even running a filter seems useless...oil gets changed @ 10 or less....been using the oil in my 3.8 buick:th_biggrin2:

I thought the extra guard was their entry level filter. Is this filter off the shelf or a special filter they use only in the service bay? Does it have a name? Do you have any pictures?
 
How did you get a fram filter thats made in china?

Canadian tire currently has a contract for oil filters from fram and they are all made the USA. Yet they sell for 1-4 dollars less than their fram equivalent.
 
Ive been using wix for 3 oil changes.. Had ALWAYS used fram, now my oil is no where a black n dirty as b4!! Im sticking with WIX! Car seems to run better also... Seen a lil increase in mpgs

Even after 4200 miles the oil look clean. I remember the oil being dark after a few weeks and less than 1k miles using fram filter...
