AEM UEGO Buying all parts individually and have questions!

Guy I know works at autozone and he watched some ricer kid rip out and throw the AEM Uego gauge from his car into the parking lot, so he goes out and picks it up. I am going to buy the gauge for $20 its a little banged up but he tested it in his car and its still working.

why would he throw it out of the window? and cant you buy a new AEM gauge for $160 i thought i remember seeing that on this forum some where. either way good deal
