3.69s

My cousin has a gxp and was wanting to swap the gears for 3.69s. Would this be hard and where could i get the gears? Would 3.69s fro a gtp work? Also how can we reove the DoD ive heard many different ways from tuning it out to buying a expensive kit. thanks for the help

Why would he want to do that.

Its pretty much only for strip cars, say good bye to mpgs with 3.69's.

Also, removing the trans is prolly your best bet, and in reality, its not even worth it.

And DOD can only be removed via custom pcm tune with a tuning software, like HP Tuners.

And he would need his transmission files changed for the 3.69 anyway.

3.29's are better, but still the same thing goes.

Buy the chain and gears, swap everything needed, custom tune the car/transmission.

Honestly, its not worth the hassle, the 2.93 gearing suits the GXP just fine.

LS1tech

LS4 section, tons of info there.

LS4 market is slim and stupid $$$, Headers are a grand, downpipe is 300+ and cam is 500+ I'd assume.

Once you add power the trans will break. Invest in a built trans if he really wants to mod.

Many members on ls1tech and GMLS4 love their 3.29s. You will see a bit of a drop in mpgs, but the ride will be a lot more fun. 3.69s are definitely overkill unless you're only using it at the track.

As for those other mods listed:
Headers: $600 with group buy
3' Catless DP: $200 from ZZP
Comp G Cam spec'd out to your needs: $400-$500

The market is small but there is power to be made. If he wants the best bang for his buck, do 3" exhaust and LS1/LS6 intake swap. Cam it and you'll have a fun 300+fwhp car.

I'm saying they get TEP rebuilds with 3.29s and say it's the best mod they've ever done. Ask Dave over at TEP and he'll tell you what to get based on your wants.

I have 3.29's from TEP installed and I love it. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade. The 3.69's (in my opinion) would be for track use. With 3.29's and the trac cont set to off, I have accidentally smoked the tires taking off quickly from a stop. I would imaging the 3.69's would be hard to keep tame. Would be fun at the track though, if you could launch the car that is heh.

I smoked sticky tires on 2.93's.

I love hearing this on these re-gear threads. I could smoke the tires in my moms minivan if I stomped the throttle down, a lot of people need a driver mod worse than anything. Basically if you cant launch a car on 2.93's dont bother regearing, if you CAN then try 3.29's. Im having a set of 3.69 and 3.29 sprockets done up right now, I think im going to try the 3.29's first. Maybe do the 3.69's later in the summer if im not happy with the results.
