HEY

about a month ago i bought a 2000 grand prix gtp with 191k on it for 500 bucks with a bad torque converter( well the owner thinks)
before i put 300+ dollars into replacing the torque converter i wanna make sure that is the problem...When i took it to get scanned two codes popped up.
1.the torque converter code
2. the torque converter solenoid code

btw..when the car is cold from first start up it runs but after 2 min of driving it feels like the transmission is locking up( as if you are at idle and just pushing the pedal)

please help!! anyone ever had this problem?

oh also at idle it makes a loud noise.

What does it sound like when you rev it up? Or when you drive it?

it revs fine. when you drive it it shift perfect.. but after a few min its like the torque converter locks up and it wont shift anymore.

Before i pulled the trans to change the tc i'd try a filter and fluid change it might just have a clogged filter.

when i got it scanned at an autozone it said
transmission torque converter solenoid
and transmission torque converter
doesnt the tcc solenoid help your car down shift?

I would check the wiring to the trans to ensure it's not something simple. If that doesn't fix it up, then the TCC soleniod and or that area of the valve body likely are the problem.

so after changing the fluid and flushing it these codes popped up..
0443
0742
0757
0650
So I'm thinking there must be a short circuit somewhere.

I'm having a very similar problem with my car and it only has 90,000 miles. I have a code that says that the torque converter is "stuck on" and now my car pulls very poorly and the rpms fly to 6,000 with ease. This is horrible. It could be a wiring problem as well. Let me know if your resolve your problem and if you find a DIY for the replacement. Mine is a GTP model though so I don't know if it's any different.

Also, I can't find a place which sells brand new torque converters for my car to save my life! Are they that hard to find? Where can I buy one?
