Oil leak and coolant smell

Hey all, I just got home from my last year in college to find out my 98 GTP is leaking oil from the back of my engine and it seems to be coming from below my throttle body. There's no oil coming from the rear valve cover, the gasket got replaced in march. I'm not 100% sure where it is coming from but the back of my engine is coated with oil and it was just sprayed with cleaner and washed about 2 weeks ago. I was told that it could be coming from my LIM. I also noticed some oil that smelled like coolant under my supercharger on the intake manifold. I was told that if I need to replace the LIM to use a metal and rubber gasket. I was wondering if any one had been down this road and had any ideas. Thanks
 


Yes, this is VERY common on these motors. We have all done it, lol.. Do a quick search for LIM gasket replacement and I'm sure there is a how-to in there. Yes, get the aluminum framed gaskets from a GM dealer. You will also need fuel injector o-rings, RTV, coolant (either refill w/ Dexcool, or flush the entire system clean and go with the green stuff), thread sealer for the LIM bolts, coolant elbows (can get them in the "HELP" section at most parts stores), 1 quart of oil to wash out the lifter valley, then enough oil and filters to do 2 changes. One after 10 min. of running, then again for the final change.
 
I might have a LIM leak as well but I think I fixed a bigger one by replacing the heater hose connectors (elbows). Apparently its a common problem at least for higher mileage GP's (which most probably are anyway). I'd say it cost less than $10 for parts and RTV plus a standard socket set and any coolant draining items.
 
I talked to my friends dad who's a retired GM mechanic, he said he saw these repairs on a weekly basis. I appreciate the heads up on the injector O-rings, I didn't know about those it's probably a take it a part and realize it after things. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

Yea I had seen those sets I was a little concerned about the GM and other sets that didnt have all of those parts with them. I might as well just get one before I get in there and realize I need them.
 
Don't use dexcool and there won't be any issues honestly. That and plug your intake manifold.

Dex has nothing to do with the issue Eric. I have personally tested this and the issue wasn't the coolant, it was the gasket and heat. I had a set of plastic gaskets going bad in under 20K w/o any dex in the car. Series I cars never had Dex and their gaskets looked identical when removed.
