exhaust help

i want my grand prix to be the grandest pricks around! lol i want it to sound good and i want the performance as well.
i went to my local muffler shop and i had some magna flow muflers put in because ive read flowmaster sounds like poo..

they sound nice on start up, but while driving they are very calm and the supercharger drowns them out if you give it some gas.( i have an intake)
so now they had asked me if i want more rumble to come back and they will put in a pipe where the resonator is.. i hear that is rediculously loud and the drone is crazy..

im thinking of waiting buying maybe some slp headers a zzp dp with the cat on it because i live in cali.. and then thats where i get lost witht he exhaust idea in my head... does it go straight back to the mufflers from there? i dont want the U bend in there so how can i get it done. i think i will wait untill i get the headers and DP but after that how do i get this done to complete it?

You want a glasspack where the resonator is, not a "pipe"

The downpipe from the headers will connect to the catback...

yea stay away from magnaflow and flowmasters, SLP are pretty nice and borla as well (i have the slp and i love them) exhaust systems are a waste tho cause they really dont add to much so stick to mufflers and throw on some tips, and u mine as well go with headers, if u want loud u could do straight pipes with a res delete, will sound a bit raspy but i personally like it, for headers most ppl do SSAC cause there cheap and get the job done, but if money is not a issue slp headers are pretty nice

ok the word cat back confuses me lol. I feel dumb.. basically if i get the cat on the dp a "catback" is anything past the dp right? straight to a glass pack from the glass pack to the mufflers? i see that the u bend kinda has its own little home routed under the car.. how do they delete that while keeping the same clearance? or will they just lay it over the already molded stock u bend molding?
thanks and sry guys :(

The Engine block has heads. These heads have Headers (or Manifolds). These are connected to each other by a crossover. On a 3800, the "Rear" header has a downpipe. This downpipe will have a flex pipe (looks like mesh) and generally has a catalytic converter ("cat"). After the cat is a flange. Then there is an Exhaust Gasket to another flange. After the second flange is a long pipe leading to the muffler/ mufflers, which are connected to exhaust tips.

Everything after the gasket from the downpipe to the exhaust tips is a catback.

you sir are a champion! thanks i appriciate it! pictures and everything ok i think i had it right just reading all over people throw around all these terms and it confuses me cause i second guess myself. you are the man!

Keep the res dont straight pipe. I dont care what anyone says Rasp never ever ever sounds good.

if this was facebook id like this... :)
I agree we dont drive civics, the power is there we dont need to have the loudest **** to make everyone think our cars are fast lol

I'm sure plenty of guys would have loud exhaust systems if our engines sounded decent. Sadly I've only heard 1 that was "decent" and it was xp cammed, had borla mufflers, and the largest res. you can fit under there
