Cold Air Intake -- PCM in way

Bologna

New member
Alright I'd like to put a cold air intake on my 1997 gtp but when I tried to take my stock air filter off I found out that the computer is located inside the box.

How would I solve this problem?

I'm asking this because I'm fairly certain that the pcm can not get wet, and it needs good ventilation. If I just remove the box and mount it to the body somewhere, it would for sure get wet and if I keep it in that box and seal the box up then it will for sure over heat.

*** I am aware that there are 10000 threads about this and I did search before making this topic but I could not find a single thread that answered my questions. I noticed several people just mounting it somewhere on the body, but what if it gets wet?

Here is a picture of my cold air intake and the old air filter box and pcm. (I don't need to remove the box to use my cold air intake. I just wanna know what to do with the PCM)

Everyone here that has HAI has their PCM like that.
The PCMs are weatherproof not waterproof... and the air box is not waterproof.
...so far no one here has had any problems running it like that.

My PCM sits on the ledge below the intake. It is velcroed down and I wash my engine bay regularly. Stuff in the engine bay is made to get a little wet.

I had mine sitting on a rubber pad so it wouldnt get knocked around too bad, and had 2 big ass zipties holding it down...Never had an issue with water, and I regularly washed the engine bay.

Its not that hard and it looks like you already have a filter.
Just make your own if you want to redo it.
FYI you can get beast 9" filter for 20$.

Here is a simple thread (you couldnt find any

Sorry to be kinda an ass, but does that thread answer my questions? No it doesn't. And I did look at that thread already.

Well I just feel safer with the computer in the box lol. And Really what's wrong with the stock one that makes it so bad and makes PVC pipe better? The only difference I see is maybe looks and that you can fit a bigger filter on it.

BETTER FLOW!!!!!!! Your car likes to breathe. The more air you can get in, the better. The less turbulence also helps.

How do you get better flow? Are you referring to the location at where the filter is? Because if you are, wouldn't mine get better flow because it'll be right behind the grill on my car?

If you are talking about the inside of the stock tube and the inside of a PVC tube, I doubt that makes much difference on flow lol.

Your current setup looks like it has a 90 degree bend in it.
Id just stick to the stock air box then.

Alright I will remove my box and put my pcm somewhere safe and mount it securely and make my own cold air intake and get a big 9" filter.

Thanks for your help guys, I just assumed that the pcm couldn't get wet.
