REALLY Hot AMP

Ok here is the specs of my system in my car. I was wondering why my AMP would get so hot and stop working after having the music up? I mean the amp wont blow because it shuts itself off and these 3 lights on it will start blinking to avoid this. But to have the music blared up to what i want, i have to have ALL windows down so it can breathe so it doesnt shut itself off.

The black sticker of course is the specs of my 12s. What should i do? Bigger AMP maybe? Im i pushing to much power? Can anyone give me any clues why my AMP gets so damn hot an shuts off? Id like to enjoy the music without having all windows down....

By the way, i have the amp out in the back seat, this little compartment comes down in the middle in the back between both back seats....

well, your sub says 400 watts, and your amp says 250....... That may be a problem. However, if you dont have the amp tuned that can also cause major problems.

What gauge wire you running to the amp from the battery? And what are your other specs? I am betting it isnt tuned properly and you are pushing that little amp too much for what you have sub wise.
 
Well what IS the nominal load?

Are you clipping the amp to all hell?

Does the amp have any airflow?

Is it class A? A/B? D? H?
 
Everybody that bought that package deal has the same issue. Sell the amp and get a larger amp to properly push the subs. Or for the time being, just turn the gain down.
 
Ok guys, im a noobie to stereo systems but if it helps any, the X-over is switched to LPF. What other specific details do you guys want to know? Oh and my wire is an 8 guage wire!!!
 


That is part of your problem. You are pushing your amp too hard. Back it off some. I dont think mine is above like 60% and I have 2 10's. All the way up doesnt mean the best sound quality.
 


It can affect bass power. But obviously you are over powering your sub.
My amp is on the back of the seat with the sub box right near it. And I have never overheated. You are pushing your system too hard.

No to the first bit. If anything he doesnt have enough amp for the subs.

He's pushing the amp too hard.

You said 2 12's? How do you have them wired? If you have them in parellel and your spec sheet says 2 ohms that means the amp is seeing 1ohm, and clearly it can't handle one ohm

No. His subs are wired to 2 ohm. He bought a package deal that comes with 2 single 4ohm coil subs, the enclosure and an amp that cannot push the subs. Everybody that buys this package deal has to crank their gain all the way up to hear a little bit of bass. He needs a bigger amp. MTX and Alpine both do this crap (sell a package deal with a weak amp). I dont understand the reasoning behind it.

An see thats what i thought when i bought the bundle but it was around my budget area so i went for it...Now will a simple video help you guys out on how everything is wired? I can do that if need be...

Yeah i feel as if the amp is getting so hot, im pushing so much power to it so it kicks off...Just right now my budget is tight and i love bass but im sick of this thing cuttin down on me:/
 
No, its easy to understand how they're wired. Both subs are just paralleled to a 2ohm load. One thing you could do, for the time being, is a sub delete. Just unscrew a sub and unhook it, and screw it back in. Turn your gain down on the amp and blast away. I bet it will sound louder with just one and the amp should remain cool.

Ok point me to the right direction for a different amp that i can use both of my subs for, i love strong bass and nothing feels better but your ears rattling:) This does is but barely long enough, i do love my A/C on hot days but air cant reach the amp unless its the air from driving down the road....ANNOYING TO DEAL WITH!!!!
