KYB mounts/bellows are junk?

I have read and heard KYB mounts are junk and I think that mine are going bad. I was also thinking the design of the bellows might be junk because they integrate the bump stop into the bellows. I think this is creating an issue because the top of the bellows is metal. I would think it would be better to use a bump stop like what Monroe sells, because seems like the strut shaft is better protected.

The only reason I started thinking about this was because of this image on ZZPs site. I might take mine apart and use some new mounts and this style of bellows and bump stop:

the top are OEM style, no?

can you find a picture or take one of what the KYB setup does and looks like?

Yeah OEM struts are setup like the above pic. Those are actually KYB Excel G/GR2's in that picture that ZZP put together.

That bottom pic is a picture of the bellows on my struts but I will have to try and find a better angle.

EDIT-

These are the only pictures I could find so far:

The top of this is metal and the bump stop is underneath that top metal plate:

Why is the bellow/bump stop design having anything to do with the mount? This is where you're losing me.

In the top picture those bellows aren't /can't be held in up top by anything. They'd just float there.

It's supposed to be bumpstop inside bellow, pressed into that metal retainer that holds them on the strut shaft. After you've cut the bump stops though, it's harder than hell to keep them on there.

I am thinking that the metal on the top of the bellows/bump stop is making contact with the underside of the mounts. With the other style of bump stop and mount, it is a pillow style mount that even when making contact with the bottom of the mount wouldn't make a noise.

Plus I think the bellows just hanging there like in the KYB setup is a poor design. Unless you zip tie the bottom its open just open like a dress. The Monroe style bellows are at least lower on the strut.

I am not by any means a pro in suspension but just thinking out loud.

We will see shortly if I am correct or not. I have to check and see if my EVAP canister is making the noise because it is loose or the strut is making the noise.

I recently just opened up a set of kyb quick struts that I installed in June 2010. Both front mounts were torn and I could push the rubber out after I took the mount off.
All my dust boots were ripped.

Seems like only thing good was the spring and strut.

So I bought new monroe mounts and dust boots. Used the zip tie at the bottom.

But your right. The bump stop/dust boot just floats up top. Weird huh
