my car isnt making a WOSH! sound anymore when i turn it off?

club of used to own a gp
i cant figure out why its not doing it anymore. A couple of days ago i cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor with STP throttle body cleaner and CRC mass air flow cleaner. I disconected a few sensors to do the job and removed the MAF sensor to clean that but left the throttle body connected. I put everything back together and started the car, it ran rough at first and stalled (i think it sucked in a little throttle body cleaner) but after a few revs it was fine, i made sure i blew it all out on a open road. Then up until today i noticed it wasnt making a WOSH! sound anymore when i shut the car off. No SES light or anything and the car seems to run alot better, this worries me a little because its a sound that i am used to. Any thoughts?

Well my car defiantly makes that sound when i turn it off. If by the "WOOSH" sound, you mean what it would sound like if the car took a deep exhale?

Then, how might i go about cleaning my throttle body, just pull off the screen , or are there things that might mess it op?

Is it worth cleaning, should i take the thing completely off and clean it up?

I'd say it's worth it. It made a lot of difference on my truck when I did it. I would've done my TB when I had it off, but I didn't have TB cleaner and I was currently waist deep in another project.

I'm going back in tomorrow to clean the TB and EGR.

screen?!?! lulz:th_laugh-pointup: are you f'n serious thats like the first thing I rip off, cuz it blocks half the air going in the engine, 110% better throttle response.

Yeah, it's there for a reason. Smooths out airflow across the MAF. There is practically no loss of flow with it in there (been checked on a flow bench) and the potential downsides are serious.

Chipped piston with .00021% greater airflow... or safe pistons.... decisions.

Use SEAFOAM

SeaFoam.jpg

It cleans alot better, has multiple engine uses, sure the car smokes alot when its done however if there is no smoke it aint clean.

very very similar to the pro injection/upper intake cleaners.

Are you being serious or just joking??? I hope your just joking cause if not, that has to be the worst advice (and logic) I have heard on this site so far.

In all seriousness, don't take the screen off. The benefits [SLIGHTLY better air flow] does not outweigh the harm. The harm being getting stuff in your blower /intake manifold and and a rougher idle.

My screen stays, sabrewings, TDC, and DNA know what there talking about. Ive also read on other forums the harm in taking the screen off. Also i was watching this video of a GTP running open header, no cross over pipe, or exaust manifolds, everyone was laughing on the forum at him, just curious any of you know what that would do?

No way for an O2 sensor to take readings, so the PCM can't tune the trims.

Probably sounds badass. I know my car sounded badass when I had some major exhaust leaks at the crossover joints... :th_biggrin2:

Heres My proof
ZZ Performance

"For Maximum performance this screen is disruption in the airflow that can be removed with little or *no adverse effects. On the flow bench we have realized a 10-15% increase in airflow by removing the screen."]For Maximum performance this screen is disruption in the airflow that can be removed with little or *no adverse effects. I Agree, those kind of things happen when you dont have an air intake/ filter in place, If you do and this kind of thing happens, then your doin something wrong. I've Had 10 Different Cars with those screens on them and Ive taken them off and had no problems, obviously you need to be more careful if you do take it off, but If you still dont believe me check these out.
Hey lets see how many TB Screens we can see on performance TB's ?
Northstar TB ZZ Performance Nope
High Velocity TB ZZ Performance nope

I dont want to step on anyones toes, I'm just defending and backing up my previous statement. If you still want to leave it on for extra protection, I wont knock you for it.

Really, Really C'mon you bought parts From the guy that supports my Advice!!! :th_scratchhead:

I like this part...

We learned that MAF screens slow down air considerably and removing them will provide more air increase than a larger TB will at times. This does not always equal more HP because the MAF can read improperly but does make for interesting possibilities.
