Help!!! injector leaking from top near fuel rail...how do you fix it?

how does one fix a leaking fuel injector/ It is leaking from the top where the wires kinda go in. Is there an O ring there too? or is it cracked? and how does one get the fuel rail off, do you have to take it all the way off

There is an o-ring on the top of the injector (where it goes into the fuel rail) and one on the bottom(where it goes into the intake manifold/heads). There are only 4 little nuts on the 4 corners holding the fuel rail down, its pretty easy to take off. Then the injectors will just unplug from the wiring harness and pull out of the fuel rail.
 
four nuts hold it on.

remove fuel pump relay, start car and wait until it dies (should be under 10 seconds).

Then try to start again for 2 seconds.

Then remove four nuts holding rail down.

then pull the injector out.

remove o rings, install new ones and insert the injector back in the rail, then bolt the rail down, reinstall the fuel pump relay, insert key then turn to "on" and inspect for leaks.

If it doesnt leak, start it and watch for leaks.

If it doesnt leak you're good.
 
Most Auto Parts Stores should have a complete "Injector O-Ring Kit" Should have 12 o-rings 6 top, 6 bottoms. Buy it, unbolt the fuel rail, pull the injectors and replace all the O-rings. Better safe than sorry and if 1 is leaking now, the others are soon to follow and if fuel starts leaking, fires a prone to happen.

In which case, don't worry, everything will be ok.

BTW when replacing them, you may have the plastic retainer break off.... this is fine, just put the O-ring on and be careful putting the injectors back in, a little lube helps slide them down into place, but the tabs get brittle with age, don't worry if you break a couple. See picture above^^^
 
What should also be mentioned is that when the top o-rings are old they dry rot and get hard. This is probably why they are leaking. The rail cup is conical shaped and removing the injector can be difficult. I turn the rail upside down and spray the cup opening with PB blaster and it makes a world of difference when pulling the injector out.
 
Thanks to all who replied, I repaired them and back on the road, no leaks so far, I will be watching this troublesome area. Thanks GM for yet fun filled afternoon , the O ring in question was rolled upon install and pinched. On a lighter note I did clean all the injectors and I can tell an increase in performance.

y not just relieve the pressure from the shrader (or however you spell it) valve instead?
 
Funny thing is..you had one that was incorrectly installed and you thank GM for it? These rings hardly ever leak or cause problems.

I was being sarcastic, I even missed a word in there that would have helped with that. Musta been impaired from the gas fumes.:th_exploding:
