Unable to remove key from the ignition.... intermittently.

I am have a problem with my 03 GTP, that it seems quite a few others have had. When I shift into park, sometimes I cannot get the key out the ignition. I have to jiggle/move the shifter around and eventually it will let go of the key (let me turn it so I can remove it). Most of the time the key comes out fine, but increasingly I have fight with the shifter to get it to release.

Note that I am not having trouble shifting it out of park.

I've searched the forums and noted alot of people just remove the solenoid. Before I go that route, can someone tell me if/where the switch is that tells the solenoid that it is in park (the park lock switch?)? As I suspect this is problem...e.g switch is going bad or dirty.

Thanks for advice....

I have the same exact problem, i actually just got in and had trouble trying to get my key out for about 5 minutes

FWIW there is a little access port under the steering column that can be used to manually release it.

I have to do this with my car. You can just stick a little object up and release it (I use an allen wrench). Look under the column for a small hole, looks like a screw access hole.

Somewhere on here is a guide for a temp fix for that, basically you remove the lower part of the steering column and ziptie the little button down.
