Modded for Maximum Slow
Looking to finally upgrade from the stock radio and im liking what I see in this one. I was origionally looking at getting this sony one Sony CDX-GT660UP CD receiver at Crutchfield.com. Then I came across this touch screen Power Acoustik one Power Acoustik PD-740NB In-Dash 7" Touchscreen DVD Car Receiver At first I said to myself keep it simple but now im thinkin that if Im going to spend the money I might as well get something a little bit different than the norm. Plus then I can watch videos when I have to wait to pick people up. lol. However I have never heard of Power Acoustik before. Does anyone know if they make a quality product? and which one would you suggest?

NOTE: The Power Acoustik has a 7 in screen the Sony has none.

I have heard of power acoustik and that there good. I however use a pioneer headunit which I would recommend:th_thumbsup-double:

I have also heard from multiple people that pioneer was really good stuff. I have looked at them a little but not a whole lot. I will probly do a quick scan of a bunch of options within the next week to see if theres anything else out there id be more interested in. These were just the main two i had narrowed down to.

i would have to agree pioneer is good stuff just be sure to buy a mid to high end one for the tuning capabilities amazon has great deals....also if you dont like pioneer alpine is another good one

I really dislike the flip out screens, it just looks cheap IMO. As Dread said, don't cheap out, you will regret it if you do. Consider getting a double din and mod the bezel to fit it, looks better, no fold out motors to worry about... IF you really have to have a screen that is. Otherwise, a really nice single din and a humount mount setup.

I considered double din but I think that would draw more attention to the car. I mean lets face it, any aftermarket stereo will attract attention but id think having a double din screen would attract even more maybe? Ive also thought about the motors is just another thing to break as well. And thanks for everyone's opinions so far!

I have had three pioneer head units, all high end and loved each and every one of them. Sold one with the car, the second was stolen and I'm on my third now. Never had any issues, just like the rest of the people on this thread. Hate Sony head units, Ive seen too many of them break and the damn things just look cheap, and Ive had a power acoustik capacitor before and after about 6 months, it started draining my battery and I threw it away. That being said, I've never had one of there head units, just thought the quality on my capacitor was pretty poor and it may be for the whole brand. Long story short, get a high end pioneer head unit with 3 sets of 5-volt pre outs, attach it to the car with an HUMOUNT and call it

with my experiance with PA i'd never buy another one.... amp lasted a whole week. sony on the other hand my HU (that i miss) i had for 2 years never had a problem with it at all

Op u need to be looking into better brands.... You get what u pay for!

I would suggest Alpine. If necessary save little more money and thank your self down the road!!

When i first started looking for a new head unit i thought about goin with Kenwood because i have four Kenwood speakers already but id been hearing some good things about sony so i considered it. Now Pioneer seems to be something that lots have recommended and i will be looking into them a little more. I will keep alpine in mind as well. Havent had alot of time lately so i havent had a lot of time to research. Thanks for all the input!

Alright, thank you, that is very good to know. I have heard good things about Crutchfield. Has anybody ordered anything through them before and had goodluck?

Crutchfield is a wonderful source of information and products. I have bought products from them before, there customer support is great and I would trust them with any products I bought. The only downside is that products can be expensive, or really rather the price they should cost :)

Dont they include some extra stuff like a wiring harness and antenna adapter or somthing too?

Yes, Crutchfield includes installation accessories.... Sonicelectronix has too, when I ordered from them. Honestly man, pick which one you like. As others have stated, there's definitely better out there.... I know people who run both, and they're happy with them. I run a dirt cheap Pioneer myself.
