well again the one i got is the wrong 1 it does has the fender sheild but it doesnt fit b/c of where the rad hose is and its for the V8.. and i dont see to much difference between kits the only difference would be filter that has the restriction and the fender sheilds and the intake pipe not much difference except for the price but i know it has gained hp and a bit better hwy economy even w/o the heat sheild!! so as for the others i would have to trust the internet and well i dont!! but im also curious about premium fuel who uses what kind gas for their S/C'd engine??
When you say you dont see too much difference between the kits do you mean the K&N kits or between all of the suggested intake systems? Unless you have scanned into your individual vehicle you have no idea what the differences are in any intake systems you may be trying [less mpg]. If you are going on visual basis alone then your approach is unproductive. Right now [without the heat sheild] you are running a $400 HAI [hot air intake] which a person with little mechanical experience could make for less then $50 [assuming your buying a really good filter].
Right now i would bet you have gained VERY little Hp, virually no Whp, but you have gained some MPG [as this is what most HAI setups do].
I agree with being weary with your purchases and having little trust when it comes to money. I fully agree in thinking for myself and doing my own research when it comes to spending cash on making my car faster. BUT it seems here your putting your trust in a company that already gave you the incorrect part. Also if you don't trust the internet why turn to it again for advice on what gasoline to put in your vehicle?
This is a forum, an online social gathering discussing what we think is the best cheapest way to modify our cars to the desired specifications. We DO NOT BENEFIT whatsoever [whit the exception of a few vendors] by recommending certain name brand of modifications.
That being said you could accomplish cooler temperatures with less then $250 worth of parts then you are with $400.
If you are looking to buy a CAI the best one is Wizaired Cold Air Induction System
Wizaired I can recall a thread comparing the Wizaired to the competition and the wizaired kept intake air coldest in different situations. [In case you were wondering i have a Thrasher because it was free lol]. Even if money is no object to you the Wizaired is still the best bolt on CAI that i know of.
Now even though you don't trust the internet ill still waste my breath by telling you that in terms of gas your supposed to run the premium unleaded gas with your S\C 3800 series engine. The manufacturer of the vehicle recommends it and it burns more efficiently so why use anything less? People have used lower grades without incident but why take the risk.
