Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Whats goin on?

So within the last month something has occurred and I figured its worth looking into, and this time Service light came on.

While im driving and the cruise control is set at 55mph out of no where in the middle of the drive the engine either miss fires or knocks just once. Now im not exactly sure what constitutes a knock, that might be to serious of a term im just not sure exactly the difference feel free to educate me on that one. Anyways it does that one single knock and then the RPM gauges just dies. Car runs fine with no issues after that and then when I shut it off and start it back up RPM gauge is back and car runs fine.

Like I said its done this twice within a one month period not sure what to make of it? Replaced the MAF IIRC spark plugs and wires recently. Any Ideas?

And since this has come up im inspired to throw some money at her so wanted to see if you guys know a good write up you used for sticking a cone on the intake, dont mind doin a little fab work and im creative just want to build it myself and not pay out the butt for it.

usually when the RPMs drop to 0 but the car runs that indicates a failed CPS (crankshaft position sensor)

you need to remove the harmonic balancer, the cps is behind it.

still have the car scanned the code may show up in history.

Good luck with the "knock" as for intake you can strap it right on the TB or what I did (pics in my progress thread), $27 free ship. Here 3.5" PIPE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX SE GT GTP 3.8 3.8L V6 AIR INTAKE 97 1998 1999-2003 | eBay

Thanks for the post, can you help me understand this "knock"

@Scottydoggs, I was planning on getting it scanned when my buddy had more time. How much are scanners are they worth having? Im sure many will have arguments to both sides, but this is my third GTP and I feel like the investment might be worth it so I dont have to wait on people to get my car scanned.

cheep scanners go for 50 bucks to start, and go up to the thousands of dollars. pep boys and auto zone they all sell scanners. till you get one auto zone will scan your car for free, print out the code for you, tell you what the code means.

Thanks man, is this right tool for the "Balancer Puller"? OTC 6667 Harmonic Balancer Puller Set - GM mopar Ford Mitsubishi

Im assuming I can get this at any auto shop right? Gonna tackle this one this weekend.

NO NOT that one.

you want one like this. but get the bolts that bill was talking about in the post i linked to you. those bolts go through this puller and into the balance'r.

Only issue is those bolts aren't long enough to yank off the balancer so you'll have to source some from a local hardware store that actually do fit...and get some beefy washers with them to boot.
